Pewaukee's Abby Gerrits selected as top senior Wing

Pewaukee's Abby Gerrits has been selected as the top senior Wing as part of the WSN Senior Girls Basketball Awards

Gerrits is an athletic wing that excels at getting to the basket off the dribble and is also a terrific three-point shooter. She finished the year with the best three-point percentage in Division 2 and will compete in the WIAA 3-Point Challenge at the State Tournament. 

The Northern Iowa recruit was named Player of the Year in the Woodland-West after averaging 16.4 points, 7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game for coach Todd Hansen and the Pirates. 

She went 45-for-99 from behind the arc and shot 48 percent overall. Abby scored in double-figures in 24 of their 25 games, 

Gerrits received unanimous WBCA All-State honors the past two years and earned Honorable Mention laurels as a freshman. 

Abby is the all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,496 points. Other career stats include: 561 rebounds (3rd in school history), 210 assists (4th in school history), 268 steals (2nd in school history). 

She is a four-time unanimous First Team All-Woodland West and earned Player of the Year in the conference as a sophomore and senior. 

Finalists for the award were Gerrits, Shae Brey of Regis, Bre Cera of Mukwonago, Carly Graverson of Franklin, and Autumn Ogden of Monona Grove. 

Past winners of the award include Arike Ogunbowale (2015), Maya Jonas of Whitefish Bay (2014), Samantha Terry of Baraboo (2013), and Brittney Fair of Nicolet (2012).
