Division 4 Girls Basketball Semi-Final Notes: Mineral Point and Kenosha St. Joesph advance to title game

Mineral Point ended the first half on a 20-8 run and cruised to a 77-56 win over Regis to advance to the Division 4 state championship game on Saturday. 

The Pointers hit shot after shot in the second half not allowing Regis to get back into the game. The closest the Ramblers got was 53-42 with 10:43 left. 

Senior Clara Chambers scored a game-high 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting. She also added 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the Pointers. 

Fellow senior Jessica Schultz, a Northern Michigan recruit, finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks for Mineral Point. Junior Sydney Staver added 16 points for the Pointers. 

Regis was led seniors Shae Brey and Hannah Gibbons who each finished with 16 points. Brey, a Butler recruit, also added 9 rebounds and 4 blocks in the loss. 

Mineral Point advances to the Division 4 state championship game in their first trip to the state tournament. They will play Kenosha St. Joseph on Saturday morning. 


Kenosha St. Joseph held off Marathon 61-59 to advance to the Division 4 state championship game against Mineral Point. 

Marathon led 30-28 at halftime but trailed most of the second half before tying the game at 56 with a three by Alysha Stieber with 1:44 to play. 

Kenosha St. Joseph immediately took the lead back with a basket by Jalah Harris. 

Marathon had chances at the end down 61-59 with 32 seconds left but missed three shots. A turnover by Kenosha St. Joseph allowed Marathon a final chance with .5 seconds left with the ball under their own basket but the ball went in the backcourt and didn't get a shot up. 

Kenosha St. Joseph turned the ball over 22 times in the game, but made up for it with their shooting. They shot 54 percent for the game. 

Division I prospect Sidney Cooks led Kenosha St. Joseph with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. The Lancers were without her of her for the final 1:02 after fouling out. 

Senior Starletta Keene hit big shots for the Lancers and finished with 17 points, including going 3-for-4 on three-pointers. 

Harris added 15 points and 9 rebounds for Kenosha St. Joseph. 

Marathon was led by senior Morgan Rachu who finished with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. 

Kenosha St. Joseph will play Mineral Point in the Division 4 state championship game on Saturday. Both teams are looking for their first state title, in their first trip to the state tournament. 

Unofficial attendance for the Division 4 evening session was 3,416.
