WSN Senior Baseball Awards: Pitcher Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN Senior Baseball Awards presented by Easton.

The pre-season watch list has been trimmed down to five finalists. Winners are announced the week of the spring baseball state tournament.

WSN Senior Baseball Awards -- Pitcher Finalists:

Hunter Black, Durand -- Black is among state leaders in most pitching categories, including a state-best 15 wins on the mound this season. He is third in strikeouts with 109 in 81 2/3 innings, posting a 1.03 ERA and 0.97 WHIP as the Panthers won the Dunn-St. Croix Large title.

Brandon Bohl, Elk Mound -- Bohl edged Black for the Dunn-St. Croix Player of the Year award, appearing in 13 games, finishing with a 10-1 record and one save. In 71 innings, he struck out a state-best 129 batters, with just 17 walks. He finished the year with a 0.39 ERA and 0.63 WHIP.

Nate Brown, Arrowhead -- A Florida recruit, Brown could hear his name called this week in the MLB Draft as well. On the mound this spring, he went 6-1 with a 1.31 ERA, striking out 64 batters in 48 innings. He also hit .427 with 32 RBI.

Jacob Huebsch, Ithaca -- Huebsch has guided Ithaca to a third consecutive state tournament appearance, posting a 10-1 record with 1 save. In 70 innings, he has struck out 111 batters while walking just 21. He has a 0.90 ERA thus far, with a 0.81 WHIP.

Ryan Schmitt, Arrowhead -- Schmitt teams with Nate Brown for one of the best pitching duos the state has seen in some time. Committed to Illinois, he allowed just 4 earned runs this season in 57 innings of work, good for a 0.49 ERA. He went 11-0 in 11 starts, with 78 strikeouts.
