Some familiar names have finished on top of the 2016 WSN Cup standings.

Arrowhead's dominance of the Large Schools Division continued, as the Warhawks claimed an ninth trophy in the nine years of the award. Madison Edgewood was the champion in the Medium Schools Division once again, while Aquinas won the Small Schools Division after a two-year hiatus from the top.

The WSN Cup is in its ninth year, recognizing schools that provide and achieve success in many of the WIAA sponsored sports. The award totals points earned in both boy's and girl's sports. All current WIAA sponsored sports with the exception of summer baseball are included as part of the scoring for the award.

Large School Division

It was another incredible season for the Arrowhead Warhawks athletic department, as the school captured a ninth consecutive Large Schools trophy. Arrowhead's total of 918.5 points is the third-highest total in the nine years we've presented the WSN Cup.

The Warhawks built a huge lead in the fall sports, scoring 542 points thanks to a title from girls swimming and diving along with runner-up finishes in boys soccer, girls cross country, girls golf, and football. The winter sports were solid, and they closed out the spring sports with more than 200 points to cruise home for the title.

In the overall standings, Middleton again came in in second place with an outstanding 797.67 points, including 314.17 in the spring sports season to top all Large Schools.

Congratulations to the Arrowhead Warhawks and outgoing Athletic Director Kevin Flegner.

In addition to Middleton, the rest of the top five in the Large Schools Division was Eau Claire Memorial (567.16), Brookfield East (562.83), and Marquette University (535).

Medium School Division

After finishing behind Notre Dame from 2010-2013, the Madison Edgewood Crusaders have now won three consecutive WSN Cup trophies in the Medium School Division.

Edgewood trailed Notre Dame after the fall sports, but pulled ahead after the winter sports season and wrapped things up with a strong spring sports showing, that featured a boys tennis title and boys golf runner-up finish. In the fall, the school earned titles in girls tennis and girls swimming and diving.

Rivals Notre Dame (619.1) and Catholic Memorial (602.13) were next in the standings, but neither could catch the Crusaders of Edgewood, though Catholic Memorial's 335 spring sports points were the most of any school.

Congratulations to the Madison Edgewood Crusaders and Athletic Director Chris Zwettler.

In addition to Notre Dame and Catholic Memorial, the rest of the top five in the Medium Schools Division consisted of Whitefish Bay (454) and Xavier (449.5).

Small School Division

Aquinas dominated the Small School Division for the first six years of the award, winning the trophy each season. However, the Blugolds finished off the pace the last two years. The 2015-16 season was a different story though, as Aquinas was a wire-to-wire leader and reclaims the trophy with 427.85 points.

There were no state titles for the Blugolds this season, but consistent strong showings allowed Aquinas to rack up points. In the spring, the girls soccer team came through with a state runner-up finish to help propel the school to the WSN Cup title.

Regis snuck into second place in the final Small School standings with 340 points. The rest of the top five consisted of The Prairie School (305), Marathon (301.67), and Lourdes Academy (290). Defending champion Saint Mary's Springs finished in seventh place. Saint Mary Catholic scored the most points during the spring season with 180.

Congratulations to the Aquinas Blugolds and Athletic Director Ted Knutson.

Congratulations to the winners and a great job by all the teams during an outstanding and exciting 2015-16 sports season.

Look for the WSN Cup to appear in the winning school's trophy cases this fall.
