Grace Mueller selected as the 2016 female recipient of the Pat Richter Award for most outstanding three-sport athlete

Grace Mueller of Verona has been selected as the 2015-16 recipient of the Pat Richter Award presented by WisSports.net as the Triple Play Triple Threat Female Athlete of the Year. 

The Triple Play Triple Threat of the Week is an honor given on WisSports.net to the top senior boys and girls three-sport athletes in the state. At the end of the school year, those awarded with the weekly honor are eligible for the Pat Richter Award, which will go out to the top boys and girls three-sport athlete of the season.

Hugh V. "Pat" Richter is one of Wisconsin's most storied student-athletes in state history. He was a three-sport athlete at Madison East High School, competing in football, basketball and baseball. He went on to fame at the University of Wisconsin, earning nine varsity letters in three sports and would later become the Athletic Director at Wisconsin.

Past winners of the award include Megan Gustafson of South Shore (2014-15), Kennedy Blahnik of Algoma (2013-14), Jenna Orr of Rice Lake (2012-13), Kailee Kamps of Belmont (2011-12), Kendall Wienkes of Highland (2010-11), and Andie Varsho of Marshfield (2009-10). 

Grace Mueller is a terrific athlete that blossomed into a standout in three sports with the commitment to improving everyday. The University of Wisconsin basketball signee reached the state tournament in volleyball and basketball as a senior, helping lead the Wildcats to the WIAA Division 1 title in basketball. 

Mueller received Division 1 WBCA All-State and was named Big Eight Player of the Year in basketball. She averaged 15.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a finished her basketball career with 947 career points. 

In volleyball, she was a first-team all-Big Eight selection as a senior and helped the Wildcats knock off top-ranked Burlington in a state quarterfinal. 

Grace was also a three-time letterwinner in track & field and lettered as a freshman in soccer. She reached the sectional track & field meet in the 4x800 in all three years she competed in track.  

What did Mueller cite as the toughest part of playing three sports? 

"Balancing all aspects of my life: sports every season, homework, spending time with family and friends, and staying focused and committed so that I can keep improving in all my sports."

Grace noted that she will treasure the time she spent with her teammates in high school. She also excelled in the classroom, with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, and plans to study Psychology and Law with her end goal of becoming an FBI Agent.
