Altoona found itself in a bit of a shootout with Cadott to open the 2016 season, and the Rails used a powerful ground game to pull away for a 63-28 victory. Connor Klatt went for a state-best 278 yards and 5 touchdowns on just 14 carries, while Kolten Wright added 136 yards and 4 scores as well.

Cedar Grove-Belgium hopped right into the Big East Conference schedule with a Week 1 game against Kohler/Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran. Both teams put up plenty of offense, but the Rockets had just enough to score a 48-26 win. Senior quarterback Josh Weiss was about as efficient as one could possibly be, completing 15 of 20 passes for 404 yards and 4 touchdowns. He had scoring passes of 15, 84, 75, and 72 yards in the game.

There were some big-time receiving performances in Week 1, with four players going over 200 yards. Tops was Stanley-Boyd's Brandon Herrick, who hauled in 7 passes for 248 yards and 4 touchdowns. His scoring catches came on plays of 49, 58, 36, and 60 yards as he averaged 35.4 yards per catch overall. He also threw a two-point conversion and booted three extra points in an impressive 35-7 win over Stratford.
