U.S. Army Week 1 Team of the Week Nominees:

Bangor - The Cardinals opened the 2015 season with an impressive win over Melrose-Mindoro, a Level 4 playoff team in D6 last year, and did the same thing this season. Three different players went over 100 rushing yards as Bangor dominating 40-7. Drew Johnson finished with 124 yards and a touchdown, Hunter Ellenburg had 123 yards and two scores, while Theo Muellenberg rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Bangor's defense held Melrose-Mindoro's high-powered attack to less than 200 yards of offense.

Bay Port - It was quite the back-and-forth affair Friday night between Green Bay Preble and Bay Port. The teams combined for 55 first-half points, as Preble led 28-27. The Hornets added a third-quarter touchdown and went up 38-27 on a field goal early in the fourth quarter, but Quinn Pierner and the Pirates would rally. Pierner scored on a 13-yard touchdown run with 7:38 remaining, then put Bay Port ahead for good on a 41-yard scoring strike to Jordan Nolle with 1:44 left in the game, as the Pirates won 42-38. Pierner had 332 yards passing and 5 touchdowns, completing 18 of 21 attempts. He added 84 yards and a score on the ground as well. Nolle hauled in 12 passes for 241 yards with 4 touchdowns.

Oconomowoc - The Raccoons have big expectations this season after winning a league title last year and returning loads of talented skill position players. It was a rough start however, as Kettle Moraine went up 14-0 in the first quarter and held a 35-21 lead over Oconomowoc in the third. The Coons rallied back, scoring the final three touchdowns of the game for a 42-35 victory. All-State quarterback Ben Nienhuis threw for 329 yards and a touchdown, adding one on the ground as well. Christian Gurule rushed for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding a 98-yard kickoff return touchdowh, and Zach Clayton hauled in 13 passes for 244 yards in the non-conference contest.

Osceola - Osceola lost to Arcadia in a tight Week 1 ballgame last season, but went on to win 13 consecutive games to claim the Division 4 state title. The Chieftains got a small measure of revenge for that one defeat last season, handling Osceola 30-0 to open the 2016 campaign. Osceola scored twice on fumble returns for touchdowns, while senior Tanner Johnson added a pair of rushing scores. The team now has a 14-game winning streak, the third-longest active streak in the state.

Wisconsin Rapids - The Red Raiders have not made the WIAA playoffs since a Division 1 runner-up finish in 2011, and while Friday's 27-21 win over D.C. Everest is technically a non-conference game, it showed that Rapids is back and ready to challenge for a postseason spot. The Raiders were a wire-to-wire winner, going up early on a 54-yard Benjamin Olson touchdown run before holding off a late Evergreens rally. Olson finished with 74 yards on the ground, and the new high-powered passing attack saw him complete 15 of 28 passes for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns. Isaiah Westfall and Austin Glinski combined for 12 catches, 190 receiving yards, and 2 scores.
