Zach Genrich of Mukwonago has been selected as the Week 1 Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Genrich helped the Indians score an impressive opening victory over Franklin. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 2,719 votes were cast, as Genrich's 765 were enough to edge second place Zach Heckman of Brookfield Central, who tallied 584.

The Indians missed the playoffs last year in a loaded Classic Eight Conference, but proved right away in Week 1 that they will be a threat this season. Hosting Franklin, who was undefeated until Level 4 last year, Mukwonago scored an impressive 22-13 win. Genrich rushed 13 times for 193 yards and one touchdown. His score came on a twisting 80-yard romp with 4:28 left in the game after Franklin had pulled within 15-13 just seconds before.

Mukwonago doesn't get a break this week by any means, as they take on another Southeast Conference power in Oak Creek.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named WisSports.net Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
