Week 2 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

While Kimberly keeps marching on as the top team in the division, a pair of top-five teams went down this week. Arrowhead's home loss to Hudson had a ripple effect, as the Warhawks fell from #2 to #6, while Hudson jumped from #7 to #4 this week. Appleton North moved up to the 2nd spot after a win over former #5 Fond du Lac, which caused the Cardinals to slip to #9 this week. Marquette, Kenosha Indian Trail, and Marquette all lost this week and fell out of the rankings, with Oak Creek, Oconomowoc, and Stevens Point moving in as undefeated squads.

Division 2

Waunakee is the only unanimous #1 team in this week's rankings, dominating the Division 2 poll. Waukesha West's loss to Carmel Catholic out of Illinois led to a four spot drop to #6 this week. Menasha takes over the #2 position, followed by Homestead, who rebounded nicely from a Week 1 loss to Arrowhead by beating Kenosha Indian Trail. Brookfield Central and Brookfield East round out the top five this week, with Superior and Waterford new entrants to the poll.

Division 3

While both teams remain undefeated, defending champion Notre Dame slid just ahead of Catholic Memorial to claim the top spot in this week's Division 3 poll. Rice Lake's win over New Richmond vaulted the Warriors from 10th to 3rd this week, dropping New Richmond from 4th to 10th. Also going down was Monona Grove, who fell by several touchdowns to Waunakee. The Silver Eagles fell from 3rd to 6th this week.

Division 4

Compared to the other divisions, it was a calm week in D4, where defending champion Osceola is the #1 team by a good margin in the voting. Columbus and Lodi remain right behind in the top three, though Little Chute did jump from 6th to 4th. The only new team in the rankings is Lake Mills, who has impressive wins over Marshall and New Glarus/Monticello.

Division 5

What happens when the top three teams all lose? Chaos. Five different teams received at least one first-place vote, but in a narrow margin, Amherst managed to hang on to the top spot despite falling to Saint Mary's Springs to end a 28-game home winning streak. Stanley-Boyd's loss to Regis caused the Orioles to fall from 2nd to 4th, while Cedar Grove-Belgium falling to Ozaukee led to a slide from #3 to #7. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser moves up to 2nd this week, followed by Durand.

Division 6

It was a heckuva week for the teams in Division 6 taking on D5 squads, as Saint Mary's Springs defeated Amherst in a showdown of defending state champions and top-ranked teams. Not only that, but D6 #5 Regis toppled D5 #2 Stanley-Boyd, with the Rambler rising to #3 this week. 8th-ranked Ozaukee beat D5 #3 Cedar Grove-Belgium for control of the Big East Conference, but it wasn't enough to move the Warriors up in the loaded D6 field. Coleman is new to this week's rankings at #10.

Division 7

Bangor remains the #1 team in Division 7, followed by closely by Edgar. Eleva-Strum was shutout by Elk Mound, and it caused the Cardinals to fall all the way out of this week's D7 poll. Taking their place is Athens, one of three ranked teams out of the Cloverwood Conference.

8-Man Football

Prairie Farm remains the favorite in 8-Man Football by a good margin, with Abundant Life and Wisconsin Heights coming in close behind. Another loss by Luck allowed Valley Christian to move from 6th to 4th, dropping Luck to 9th this week. Oakfield dropped a wild 80-72 shootout to Abundant Life last week, falling from #5 to #7.
