Week 3 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Week 2 WisSports.net Coaches Poll
Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

It was another rough week for teams in the Division 1 Coaches Poll. While the top five remains the same, with Kimberly leading the way, three teams went down and dropped from the rankings. The big news was Arrowhead going down for a second straight week at home, falling to Waukesha North for the first time since 1999. Oak Creek and Fond du Lac lost as well and slipped out of the rankings. Already, four teams from the Week 1 poll have dropped out completely by Week 3: Arrowhead, Fond du Lac, Kenosha Indian Trail, and Mukwonago. Marquette had dropped out last week but re-enters the rankings at #6 while Wisconsin Rapids makes it's first appearance in the poll in several years, with Madison La Follette joining at #10.

Division 2

There was relative stability in the Division 2 rankings this week, with Waunakee holding down the top spot in unanimous fashion. Brookfield Central did narrowly slide ahead of Homestead for the third spot behind Menasha though. Waukesha North's big win over Arrowhead allowed the Northstars to enter the rankings for the first time in at least a decade, debuting this week at #7.

Division 3

It remains a close vote at the top between Notre Dame and Catholic Memorial, but once again the Tritons got the edge in the poll. Rice Lake's loss to Chippewa Falls dropped the Warriors to 5th this week. Xavier suffered a defeat to Menasha and slide from 4th to 8th. Newcomers to the poll include Kewaskum, fresh off a dominating victory over Winneconne, and Onalaska, who beat Holmen for the first time since 2007. Division 3 appears to be absolutely loaded this year, with unbeaten teams Pewaukee, Waupaca, Luxemburg-Casco, La Crosse Logan, Hayward, and East Troy not able to crack the top ten so far, plus several other quality teams that have experienced a loss along the way.

Division 4

Osceola continues to dominate the Division 4 Coaches Poll, defeating New Richmond in convincing fashion last week. Fellow Middle Border Conference foes Saint Croix Central (#5) and Ellsworth (#6) are up there as well. Sheboygan Falls is new to the poll, as the Falcons are a perfect 3-0 to open the season, replacing Lake Mills.

Division 5

Chetek-Weyerhaeuser became the latest top five Division 5 team to suffer a defeat this year, going down to Northwestern. It nearly cost the Bulldogs a spot in the rankings, but they hold on at #10. Amherst is a unanimous selection to top the poll, with Stanley-Boyd a near unanimous #2 choice, though both teams have losses this season. Stratford re-enters the rankings ahead of this week's showdown with rival Edgar.

Division 6

All Saint Mary's Springs has done this year is defeat powerhouse programs Shiocton, Amherst, and Ozaukee, but as impressive as the Ledgers have been, Darlington is looking just as good, including a dominating victory over a D4-ranked Lake Mills squad last week. As a result, the vote for the top spot is actually very, very close, with Springs narrowly holding on to the #1 position. The only change in this week's order comes with Ozaukee dropping from 8th to 10th after the 10-point loss to Springs.

Division 7

It was a pretty stable week in Division 7, with Bangor continuing to hold off Edgar for the top spot. In fact, spots one through nine are the same as last week, with a loss by Athens dropping them out of the #10 position. Taking that spot this week is unlikely 3-0 team Royall, who finished just 2-7 last year and hasn't made the playoffs since 2002.

8-Man Football

Once again, Prairie Farm tops the 8-Man Coaches Poll, with Abundant Life and Wisconsin Heights following close behind. There are plenty of changes elsewhere however, including Valley Christian dropping from 4th to 10th after a loss to Abundant Life. Luck got its first win of the season on the field (they've already received two forfeit victories), topping Clayton, as the Cardinals move up to 6th this week. Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah and Sevastopol are new to this week's poll.
