WisSports.net Week 8 Player of the Week Nominees:

Jake Buhler, Hortonville -- The Polar Bears needed a win in Week 8 to set up a Week 9 showdown with league-leading Stevens Point for a share of the VFA-South title. Hortonville was unable to find the end zone against Neenah, but the defense was excellent and Jake Buhler excelled in the kicking game as they scored a 12-10 victory. Buhler, the leading scorer of the boys soccer team who only practices football once a week, booted through all four of his field goal attempts, including a 25-yard game-winner with 7 seconds remaining.

Brian Corbins, Wisconsin Lutheran -- The Vikings started the season 0-2 in non-conference games, but have rattled off five wins in the last six contests, including a 48-28 win over Oconomowoc on Thursday to knock the Raccoons from the ranks of the unbeatens and force a tie atop the Little Ten with just one week left. With just a one-score lead heading into the final quarter, Corbins found the end zone twice times to bring his game total to five touchdowns. He finished with 25 carries for 281 yards.

Zach Feller, New Glarus/Monticello -- New Glarus/Monticello clinched at least a share of the Capitol-South title on Friday night, defeating co-leader Waterloo 35-28. Feller was a workhorse on the ground, carrying the ball 24 times for 214 yards and 3 touchdowns as the team went for more than 400 yards on the ground.

Shawn Waalen, Amery -- The Warriors clinched their first postseason appearance since 2006, likely ending Somerset's 14-year playoff run in the process. Waalen had 26 carries for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Amery won 21-14.

Alex Zeinert, Menasha -- Menasha got some bad news leading up to its showdown with fellow undefeated West De Pere, as senior running back Tyler Szews was declared out for the season with a knee injury. There are some talented options to replace him, but the passing game would need to pick up some slack as well. Zeinert did just that, completing 15 of 20 passes for 277 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Bluejays scored a convincing 42-21 victory.
