WisSports.net Level 2 Player of the Week Nominees:
Eric Fridl, Catholic Memorial - Catholic Memorial saw it's undefeated season on the brink when Wisconsin Lutheran took a 27-13 lead with just over five minutes. But the Crusaders showed championship mettle, as Ben Nimz twice found Max Cooper for long touchdown passes to pull even at 27 with 1:18 remaining. That set the stage for big-time heroics, as Catholic Memorial lined up for a 51-yard field goal with just one second left on the clock. Eric Fridl nailed it dead center through the uprights with room to spare to send the Crusaders to a 30-27 victory.
Brock Halopka, Abbotsford - The Falcons racked up more than 500 yards rushing in an impressive 54-39 victory over Marathon Friday night, as three players topped the century mark. They were led by Halopka, who carried the ball just six times, but finished with 239 yards and 4 touchdowns. His scoring runs came from 59, 66, 36, and 78 yards.
John Ross Linscheid, Highland - The Cardinals went into undefeated Ithaca and came away with a dominating 49-13 victory in a Division 7 playoff game. Linscheid led a rushing attack that posted 360 yards and 7 touchdowns, as he carried it 19 times for 203 yards and 6 scores himself. He also threw for 37 yards in the win.
Alec Ogden, Monona Grove - Earlier this year, Monona Grove was hammered by Waunakee 45-14. But, given a second chance, the Silver Eagles turned the tables in the postseason. MG nearly had a running clock, settling for a 45-21 victory. Ogden was outstanding, throwing for 251 yards and a touchdown on 15 of 22 passing, leading the team in rushing as well with 148 yards and a score on 15 carries.
Gus Turner-Zick, Stevens Point - Stevens Point found itself trailing Hudson midway through the fourth quarter of a Division 1 playoff game, but as he'd done all night, Gus Turner-Zick came up big. The senior running back scored a pair of touchdowns in the last four minutes to help the Panthers to a 41-27 victory. He finished the night with 304 yards and 3 touchdowns on 35 carries. He added 70 yards in kickoff returns as well.
