The WSN Team of the Week is back again for 2016. The voting this year is upgraded and is featured at the bottom of the article. Voting is open until Thursday at 4 p.m., so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word (hint:  Social Media is a great way to do so). Users may vote once per day.

Level 3 Team of the Week Nominees:

Badger - The Badgers have ground their way through the Big Eight Conference, defeating Madison West then Verona, and finally Middleton in a Level 3 contest. Each game their strong rushing attack has led the way. Against Middleton, the Badgers racked up 290 yards and 3 touchdowns on 46 rush attempts, with Mason DuMez hooking up with William Keller III for a 51-yard touchdown pass as well. The Badger defense limited the strong Middleton rushing attack to just 78 yards on the ground.

Homestead - Despite losing senior quarterback Eric Zoeller to a season-ending shoulder injury during the game, Homestead had enough left in the tank to complete a game-winning drive in the closing seconds, capped by a 3-yard touchdown plunge by Bradley Woldt on 4th and goal with only seconds remaining. It gave the Highlanders a 27-24 win, the second time they've defeated Whitefish Bay this season.

Kimberly - Even champions have their struggles (usually), and it wasn't looking good for three-time defending state champion Kimberly on Friday night against Fond du Lac. The Cardinals of Fondy led 14-13 at the half and after a bit of back-and-forth, held a 29-26 lead after a 14-yard Colton Wasielieski touchdown run with 5:06 left in the game. Kimberly stayed calm and regained the lead with just over a minute left as Danny Vanden Boom found Tyler Verstegen from 16 yards out. Fond du Lac had one more chance, but turned it over on downs as Kimberly held on for a 32-29 victory.

Menomonie - Despite playing banged up with several injuries in the last couple weeks, Menomonie has continued to get the job done, the most recent example a 41-14 defeat of Pulaski. Quarterback Jace LaBuda continued his strong season with a pair of touchdown passes, and Justin Evans ran for 140 yards and a touchdown. Rhett Sheehan caught three passes for 72 yards and had an interception on defense.

Pewaukee - It was fitting that in a game dominated by the defenses, it was the defense of Pewaukee that came up huge in the final minutes to secure the victory. With Pewaukee holding a 7-3 lead in the fourth quarter, Monroe got a first down at the Pirates' 1-yard line with 4:44 left to play. On four consecutive running plays, Monroe tried to break into the end zone, only to be denied by the Pewaukee defense, who held the lead. The Pirates defense held off one more late Cheesemakers rally in the closing seconds of the game to hold on for a 7-3 victory. The lone touchdown was a 32-yard pass from Josh Swanson to Seth Bickett in the second quarter.
