Wisconsin Sports Network and WisSports.net are happy to announce Kimberly's Danny Vanden Boom as the 2016 recipient of the Dave Krieg Award as the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin, part of the WSN Senior Football Awards.

The Papermakers are riding a 55-game winning streak, with Vanden Boom powering the offense once again. After leading the team to a Division 1 state title last year, he's completed 134 of 198 passes (67.7%) for 2,020 yards and 29 touchdowns (4 INT) this season for a passer rating of 132.2, despite limited attempts in a number of blowout victories.

"He is the type of player that makes the people around him better," said head coach Steve Jones. "Danny represents what a student-athlete should represent. He participates in three sports and currently has a 4.25 GPA."

A preferred walk-on commit at Wisconsin after turning down several scholarship offers to other schools, Vanden Boom has outstanding size and a big arm, with a keen understanding of the offense.

Finalists for the award were Vanden Boom, Brayton Duin of Onalaska, Ben Nienhuis of Oconomowoc, Quinn Pierner of Bay Port, and Josh Weiss of Cedar Grove-Belgium.

Past winners of the award include Oshkosh West's Trey Demler (2009), Franklin's Lance Baretz (2010), West De Pere's Jay Tollefson (2011), Watertown's Tarek Yaeggi (2012), Xavier's Matt Ferris (2013), Brown Deer's Zack Baun (2014), and Amherst's Garrett Groshek (2015).

The award is named after Dave Krieg, a graduate of D.C. Everest High School who went on to star at Milton College and later in the National Football League. Krieg ranks in the Top 12 in NFL history in career pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 12-year career.
