Seven's were wild for the Edgar Wildcats, who jumped out early and cruised home for a 36-6 win over Shullsburg in the Division 7 state title game, marking the program's seventh gold ball.

Head coach Jerry Sinz has been at the helm for all of the titles, the first of which came way back in 1979. He now has state championships in Division 4, Division 5 (three times), Division 6 (twice), and Division 7.

Edgar marched right down the field on its first drive, covering 66 yards on seven plays, capped by a one-yard Alec Hafferman touchdown run.

The lead swelled to 15-0 just seconds later, as Kamron Butt made a leaping one-handed interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

The Wildcats would go up 22-0 on its next possession thanks to another short Alec Hafferman run, and the result was never in doubt the rest of the way, despite a leaping touchdown catch by Hunter Matye late in the first quarter.

Hafferman and Tyler Matisyk would tack on scores in the second quarter for a 36-6 halftime advantage, as the lead held up the rest of the way.

Edgar held a 318-226 advantage in total yards on the day, but the dominance was much greater than even that suggested, thanks in part to four Shullsburg turnovers. Hafferman led the way with 136 yards and 3 touchdowns on 21 carries.
