The Pewaukee boys hoops team had a chance to secure an outright conference title in the very challenging Woodland-West last Friday, but things weren't exactly going as planned, with Pius XI Catholic holding a 37-27 advantage at halftime.

Pewaukee leading scorer Grant Basile, who averages just shy of 15 points per game, was held to just two points before the break, but his more aggressive play in the second half helped turn the tide, as the Pirates poured on the offense to score a 71-65 victory.

"Our second half was a lot better than our first half," Pewaukee coach Mike Basile told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We battled through adversity on the road down 10. I'm just very proud, especially to clinch the conference championship here means the world to us."

Grant Basile scored 21 of his game-high 23 points in the second half, as Jack Gohlke buried seven three-pointers for 21 points and Wyatt Cook chipped in with 14.

The win moves Pewaukee to 13-1 in league play, three games ahead of New Berlin Eisenhower with just two games remaining. Pewaukee is 18-2 overall and ranked number seven in the last WisSports.net Division 2 Coaches Poll, with an update to the rankings coming later this afternoon.
