The La Crosse Central boys hoops team held a one-game lead on Onalaska heading into a huge Mississippi Valley Conference showdown with the Hilltoppers last Friday, however the Red Raiders trailed 37-33 at halftime, as Onalaska senior Tyler Hughes had 20 points.

While limited somewhat offensively, senior Kobe King, a Wisconsin recruit, made sure he took care of business on the other end of the court in the second half, switching onto Hughes and limiting him to just 10 points after halftime.

Fellow senior Bailey Kale would pick up much of the scoring slack for Central, as he poured in 23 points in the game. King added 15, including a huge three-pointer to stretch the Red Raiders lead to 59-52.

"The second half was a lot prettier for us," Central coach Todd Fergot told the La Crosse Tribune. "We knew they would shoot the ball better than they did the first time against us, but they di other things more effectively, too."

The win gave Central a two-game advantage in the Mississippi Valley Conference standings with just one game remaining, securing an outright league title.
