Senior Girls Basketball Awards: Defense Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 15 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. There will be a total of 25 finalists for the five awards, five different players for each award.

Brooke Geier, Kewaunee -- Geier is averaging 20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 3.9 steals per game for the Storm. Kewaunee (21-4) plays Wrightstown in a D3 sectional semi-final tonight at Manitowoc Lincoln. 

Amazshea Lee, Milwaukee Bay View/Lifelong Learning -- Lee averaged a state-best 7.6 steals per game to go along with 23.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game for the Redcats. Milwaukee Bay View/Lifelong Learning finished the year with a 17-5 record. 

Callie Pohlman, Appleton North -- Pohlman is the Lightnings' defensive stopper. She averages 2.5 steals per game, along with 8.6 points, and 2.8 assists per contest for undefeated Appleton North. The Lightning (24-0) face conference foe Appleton West in a D1 sectional semi-final tonight at Appleton East. 

Myriama Smith-Traore, Whitewater -- Smith-Traore is among the state-leaders in blocks per game with 5.1 while also collecting 3 steals per contest. The Marquette recruit also averages 17.1 points and 15.3 rebounds (3rd best in state) per game. Whitewater (23-1) faces Madison Edgewood in a D3 sectional semi-final tonight at Janesville Craig. 

Sydney Staver, Mineral Point -- Staver, a UW-Milwaukee recruit, is averaging 17.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 3.3 steals per game for the defending D4 state champions. The Pointers (19-5) face conference foe Darlington in a D4 sectional semi-final tonight at Monroe.
