Kenosha St. Joseph's Sidney Cooks selected as the top senior Post

Kenosha St. Joseph's Sidney Cooks has been selected as the top senior Post as part of the WSN Girls Basketball Awards

Cooks is long and athletic forward that can score with off the dribble, from the perimeter and with her back to the basket. She is also strong on defense, using her length to block and deflect passes. 

The Michigan State recruit finished second in the state in scoring with 27.6 points per game; Cooks also averaged 13.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.8 steals, and 2.6 blocks per game for coach Lynell Collins and the Lancers. 

Cooks, a 6-foot-4 forward, scored  30 or more points in 11 games this season, including posting a career-high 46 points in the Lancers 78-59 win over Racine Case on February 14. 

Cooks recorded double doubles in 19 of her 24 games this season. 

She finished her career with 1,909 career points, which put her just outside the top 25 in state history. 

Kenosha St. Joseph finished second in the Metro Classic and reached a Division 4 sectional final before falling to Howards Grove, 52-50.

Cooks was selected to play in the McDonald's All-American Game. 

Last season, the Lancers finished the year as the D4 state runner-up, losing to Mineral Point in the championship game. 

Finalists for the award were Cooks, Morgan Allen of Hortonville, Marissa Robson of Stoughton, Anja Smith of St. Mary's Springs, an Lexi Smith of Northland Pines. 

Past winners of the award include Grace Mueller of Verona (2016), Megan Gustafson of South Shore (2015), Jessica Lindstrom of Superior (2014), Breanna Lewis of Milwaukee Riverside (2013), and Heather Bowe of Regis (2012).
