The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association is proud to announce Sidney Cooks of Kenosha St. Joseph and Estella Moschkau of Madison Edgewood as the co-recipients of the 2017 Miss Basketball Award.

The award honors the top senior girls’ basketball player and has been given out since 1982. This is the first time that the WBCA has awarded co-recipients of Miss Basketball. 

Cooks is long and athletic forward that can score with off the dribble, from the perimeter and with her back to the basket. She is also strong on defense, using her length to block shots and deflect passes. 

She finished second in the state in scoring with 27.6 points per game; Cooks also averaged 13.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.8 steals, and 2.6 blocks per game for coach Lynell Collins and the Lancers. 

Cooks, a 6-foot-4 forward, scored 30 or more points in 11 games this season, including posting a career-high 46 points in the Lancers 78-59 win over Racine Case on February 14. 

The Michigan State recruit finished her career with a school-record 1,909 career points, which put her just outside the top 25 in state history. 

Last season, Sidney led the Lancers to a Division 4 state runner-up finish, losing to Mineral Point in the championship game. 

Cooks was selected to play in the McDonald's All-American Game. 

Moschkau is a quick and athletic wing that affects the game in a variety of ways. She shoots very well from behind the arc and can get to the rim off the dribble. Defensively, she is an outstanding shot-blocker using great timing along with her vertical. 

Moschkau is averaging 18.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game with four double-doubles for coach Lora Staveness and the Crusaders. 

The Stanford recruit holds the school-record for points (1,500+) and blocks (345+). 

Moschkau, a 6-foot-2 wing, scored a career-high 36 points in a Division 3 regional final victory over Lakeside Lutheran. In the Crusaders sectional final win over Platteville, Estella finished with 31 points. 

Moschkau and the Crusaders are playing in the Division 3 state championship today.

As a junior, Estella helped Madison Edgewood reach the state tournament for the first time in program history last season. She was a named WBCA All-State last season and took home First Team All-Badger South honors as a junior. 

Cooks and Moschkau will be presented as co-recipients today at the Resch Center.
