2017 Girls State Tournament wrap-up with WisSports.net All-Tournament Team

The 42nd WIAA Girls' State Tournament was held at the Resch Center in Green Bay and all five of the state champions were first-time winners. 

Appleton North won the Division 1 state championship (4th state appearance) and finished the year with an undefeated record, beating De Pere 49-34 in the title game. The Lightning were ranked No. 2 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10. 

D1 semi-finals:
Appleton North beat Milwaukee King 75-52
De Pere beat Middleton 49-47 in overtime 

Beaver Dam captured the Division 2 state championship (3rd state appearance) to cap an undefeated season, cruising to a 62-33 win over Cudahy in the title game. The Golden Beavers were ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10. 

D2 semi-finals: 
Cudahy beat Hortonville 46-36
Beaver Dam beat Monroe 62-47

Madison Edgewood won its first state title in program history (2nd state appearance), beating Martin Luther 51-30 in the Division 3 state championship game. The Crusaders were ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10. 

D3 semi-finals: 
Martin Luther beat Bloomer 56-38
Madison Edgewood beat Wrightstown 60-38

Howards Grove took home the Division 4 state championship, earning a comeback win over previously unbeaten Aquinas 44-43 in the Division 4 title game. The Tigers were ranked No. 7 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10. 

D4 semi-finals:
Howards Grove beat Durand 44-37
Aquinas beat Shiocton 56-36

Loyal won the Division 5 state championship in its first-ever appearance; the Greyhounds overcame a 13-point second half deficit to defeat Milwaukee Academy of Science, 74-61. Loyal was ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10. 

D5 semi-finals: 
Milwaukee Academy of Science beat Clayton 51-47
Loyal beat Bangor 44-24

Division I College Coaches in Attendance: Wisconsin, Marquette, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, Cleveland State, IUPUI, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Northwestern.

Williams breaks nine Division 5 state tournament records

Sophomore Shemera Williams of Milwaukee Academy of Science broke nine Division 5 state tournament records, including the record for points in a game with 40 and points in a tournament with 73.

Williams scored 40 points in a 74-61 loss to Loyal in the D5 state championship game, previous record was held by Assumption's Gena Grundhoffer who scored 35 points in a state semi-final last season. 

Shemera finished with 33 points in the Novas win over previously unbeaten Clayton in a semi-final, giving her 73 points in the two games at the state tournament. The 73 points shatter previously record of 55 points set by Grundhoffer last season. 

She also broke the record for most field goals in the tournament (26), most field goals in a game (16), most field goals attempted in a game (26), most field goal attempted in a tournament (54), three-pointers made in the tournament (9), and tied the single-game record for three-pointers in a game (5).

Lexi Donarski, frosh., Aquinas: Donarski finished with a game-high 23 points and added 4 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks in the Blugolds loss to Howards Grove, 44-43, in the Division 4 state championship game. The Iowa State recruit tallied 14 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks in a 56-36 win over Shiocton in a state semi-final. 

Sydney Hilliard, soph., Monroe: Hilliard, a Division I prospect, finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and a block in the Cheesmakers loss to D2 state champion Beaver Dam in a state semi-final. 

Sydney Levy, jr., Appleton North: Levy scored a game-high 19 points and also contributed 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in a 75-52 win over previously unbeaten Milwaukee King in a Division 1 state semi-final. The UW-Milwaukee recruit tallied 6 points, 6 rebounds and a steal in Appleton North's 49-34 win over De Pere in the title game. 

Estella Moschkau, sr., Madison Edgewood: Moschkau led the Crusaders to their first state title in program history on Saturday. The Stanford recruit finished with a game-high 20 points and added 7 rebounds in a 51-30 win over Martin Luther in the Division 3 state championship game, which was just a couple hours after being named co-Miss Basketball by the WBCA. In a state semi-final win over Wrightstown, Moschkau tallied 13 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. 

Sydnee Roby, soph., Milwaukee King: Roby, a Division I prospect, finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks in the Generals loss to eventual Division 1 state champions Appleton in a state semi-final. 

Karsyn Rueth, sr., Loyal: Rueth finished with a team-high 25 points and added 9 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block in the Greyhounds comeback victory against Milwaukee Academy of Science, 74-61, to capture the Division 5 state title. In Loyal's 44-24 win over Bangor in a state semi-final, the UW-Oshkosh recruit tallied 11 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. 

Paige Schabo, soph., Appleton North: Schabo scored a game-high 16 points and added 7 rebounds in Appleton North's win over De Pere in the D1 state championship game. She tallied 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in a win over Milwaukee King in a state semi-final. 

Olivia Stauss, sr., Howards Grove: Stauss scored a team-high 16 points and went 9-for-11 from the free throw line in the Tigers comeback win over Aquinas, 44-43, in the Division 4 state championship game. In Howards Grove win over Durand in a state semi-final, Stauss finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. 

Cassidy Trotter, sr., Beaver Dam: Trotter led the Golden Beavers to the Division 2 state championship and undefeated record. She finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals in a win over Monroe in a state semi-final. The Michigan Tech recruit tallied 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals in Beaver Dam's win over Cudahy in the title game.
