Eau Claire North's Tanner Halvorson has been selected as the top senior Pitcher as part of the WSN Senior Baseball Awards.

The Huskies advanced to the Division 1 state semi-finals, and Halvorson's success on the mound is a big part of that. He finished the year 10-1 with a 1.15 ERA in 12 games this year. The left-hander struck out 77 batters in 54 2/3 innings.

Halvorson's skills were on full display at the state tournament, where in a quarterfinals match-up against unbeaten Green Bay Preble, he shut down the Hornets with just one hit allowed in five innings of work, striking out seven. Like the warrior he is, he came back in the nightcap against Kimberly, allowing one run in two innings, striking out four.

He was also one of the team's top hitters, leading the Huskies in RBI while hitting .385 with a 1.045 OPS.

Finalists for the award were Halvorson, Taylor Brayton of Prentice, Ben Dragani of Catholic Memorial, Ryan Hoerter of Kenosha Indian Trail, and Chas Sagedahl of Prairie du Chien.

Past winners of the award include Sun Prairie's Nate Hoffmann (2012), Kenosha Bradford's Kevin Tibor (2013), Stevens Point's Cal Giese (2014), Kimberly's Brice Swick (2015), and Arrowhead's Ryan Schmitt (2016).
