Kaukauna, Rice Lake, Laconia, Juda/Albany, and McDonell Central claim softball state titles

The 2017 WIAA State Softball Championships wrapped up on Saturday. 

In Division 1, Kaukauna defeated top-ranked Oshkosh North, who they lost to twice during the regular season, in a quarterfinal (2-0), before beating defending champion Stevens Point, 3-0, in a semifinal. The Galloping Ghosts defeated Wilmot, 3-1, in the championship game to capture their second state title in as many appearances. Wilmot defeated Germantown (4-0) and Oak Creek (2-1) to reach the title game. 

In Division 2, Rice Lake earned a comeback win over Kewaskum (6-5) before defeating Beloit Turner 13-9 in the championship game that lasted 8 innings. The Warriors took home their second state title in six trips to state. Beloit Turner shutout New London 3-0 in a state semifinal to reach the championship game. 

Laconia completed a three-peat in Division 3 and have now won 61-straight games. The Spartans (25-0) beat Weyauwega-Fremont 5-0 in the title game and defeated Bloomer 2-0 in a state semifinal. Weyauwega-Fremont topped Marshall 2-0 in a state semifinal. 

In Division 4, Juda/Albany edged Pacelli 2-1 in the championship game to capture its first state title. The co-op also reached the state tournament in 2015. Juda/Albany rolled past Phillips 13-4 in a state semifinal. Pacelli defeated CWC-8 conference foe Shiocton 3-0 in a state semifinal. 

In the first year with five divisions in softball, McDonell Central took home the Division 5 state title, its second state title in five appearances at state. The Macks defeated Blair-Taylor 8-3 in the championship game after edging Belmont 5-4 in a state semifinal. Blair-Taylor reached state for the first time in program history and beat Wausaukee 11-0 in 5-inning to reach the title game.
