Some familiar names have finished on top of the 2017 WSN Cup standings.

Arrowhead's dominance of the Large Schools Division continued, as the Warhawks claimed a tenth trophy in the ten years of the award. Catholic Memorial finally broke through in the Medium Schools Division after many years just off the pace, while Aquinas won the Small Schools Division for a second year in a row.

The WSN Cup is in its tenth year, recognizing schools that provide and achieve success in many of the WIAA sponsored sports. The award totals points earned in both boy's and girl's sports. All current WIAA sponsored sports with the exception of summer baseball are included as part of the scoring for the award.

Large School Division

It comes as no surprise that Arrowhead won its tenth WSN Cup Large Schools trophy in the last ten years, but the Warhawks took things up a notch in 2016-17 with a record-setting performance.

Arrowhead became the first school to score over 1000 points in WSN Cup history, finishing with 1015.33 on the season. The previous high was 963.33, set by Arrowhead in 2014-15.

The Warhawks scored 315 points in the spring season, the most of any school, getting at least 10 points in all seven spring sports. That included a state title in boys golf, along with a semi-final appearance in baseball and strong showings in girls track, girls soccer, and boys tennis.

Surprisingly, the only other state title won by Arrowhead this year was the girls golf team in the fall, though the school's athletic teams were so outstanding in all sports that it amassed a huge total. Of the 23 WIAA sports included in the WSN Cup standings, only the wrestling team failed to score any points.

Congratulations to the Arrowhead Warhawks and first-year Athletic Director Ryan Mangan.

Middleton (642.5 points) came in second in the Large School standings for a third straight season. The rest of the top five of the Large Schools Division was Sun Prairie (624), Brookfield Central (512.44), and Stevens Point (446.33).

Medium School Division

Catholic Memorial has been one of the most consistent schools in the WSN Cup standings, finishing in the top four every year since the trophy began in 2007-08. However, the Crusaders had never broken through for a win...until this year.

A huge spring season helped Catholic Memorial extend its lead after winter sports, finishing with 719.94 points overall to end Madison Edgewood's three-year reign at the top of the Medium Schools Division.

Catholic Memorial got a sixth straight state title in girls soccer in the spring, along with a runner-up finish in girls track, a third-place finish in boys golf, and a tie for third in boys track.

The Crusaders also got state championships from football, girls volleyball, and boys volleyball in the fall.

Congratulations to Catholic Memorial and retiring Athletic Director Greg Gamalski.

Three-time defending champion Madison Edgewood was second with 644 points, while the rest of the top five consisted of Whitefish Bay (545), Rice Lake (527), and Xavier (398.75)

Small School Division

For a second straight year and eighth time overall, Aquinas is the winner of the Small School Division of the WSN Cup. The Blugolds completed a huge comeback in the spring, as the school trailed Darlington by 82.65 points heading into the final season of the year.

Aquinas got a state title from the baseball team along with a state semi-final appearance in girls soccer to help overcome the Redbirds.

The baseball title was the only championship won by Aquinas this year, but the school got a runner-up finish from boys cross country in the fall, along with excellent showings in girls golf and girls volleyball. During the winter, the girls basketball team finished as state runners-up, as the Blugolds amassed 566.35 points overall in 2016-17.

Congratulations to Aquinas and Athletic Director Kevin Schreiner.

Darlington finished second with 467.5 points, while Howards Grove (360), The Prairie School (335), and Lourdes Academy (323.33) rounded out the top five.

Congratulations to the winners and a great job by all the teams during an outstanding and exciting 2016-17 sports season.

Look for the WSN Cup to appear in the winning schools' trophy cases this fall.
