Prep Props - Week 1

Prep Props is our weekly look at the best individual statistical performances in the state, with the leaders in rushing yards, passing yards, and receiving yards. Prep Props is published every Monday morning.

Week 1 Rushing Leaders

In a wild game that saw the teams combine for the second-most total yards of offense in state history, Grantsburg's John Chenal had a huge night in a 72-52 victory over Cumberland. The senior North Dakota commit carried the ball 32 times for 435 yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging 13.6 yards per carry. The 435 yards places him ninth on the state's single-game rushing list. That wasn't all he did though. He also caught two passes for 22 yards, recorded three tackles, and had a kickoff return for 23 yards.

Week 1 Passing Leaders

Grantsburg and Cumberland combined for 1,270 yards of offense on Friday night, the second-highest total in state history. While most of Grantsburg's came on the ground (631 yards), Cumberland did the most damage through the air. Junior quarterback Kobe Berghammer completed 49 of 66 passes for 531 yards and 7 touchdown. His 66 pass attempts would be perhaps as high as fourth in state history, while the 49 completions is a new state record. His yardage total is sixth all-time, while he's tied for second in state history in single-game touchdown passes. Unfortunately, Cumberland would fall 72-52.

Week 1 Receiving Leaders

In a game with 1,270 yards of offense, including 531 passing yards by Cumberland, it comes as no surprise that the top receiving day is from this game as well. Junior Reid Olson of Cumberland hauled in 15 passes for 251 yards and a couple touchdowns, though Grantsburg would win 72-52.
