Week 5 Player of the Week Nominees:

Justin Evans, Menomonie -- Hudson was a thorn in the side of Menomonie for many years, winning six straight in the rivalry from 2009 to 2014. The Mustangs have now won three straight since then however, including a 36-24 victory on Friday. Evans was part of a dominating rushing performance (the Mustangs did not complete a pass), going for 312 yards and 5 touchdowns on 37 carries. Two of his rushing scores came in the fourth quarter after Hudson had closed within five points.

Jacob Heyroth, Lodi -- Lake Mills features an explosive offensive attack, but it was Lodi's running game that proved to be the big play machine on Friday. In a battle of Capitol-North rivals both ranked in the top five of Division 4, Lodi had three scoring plays of at least 84 yards, including two of them from Heyroth. He'd finished with 14 carries for 260 yards and 5 touchdowns, scoring on runs of 3, 1, 24, 89, and 39 yards. He also had an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter as the Blue Devils won big, 55-24. And, oh yeah, he added seven tackles and a sack over on defense.

Ben Kohl, Oshkosh West -- The Wildcats have not been to the playoffs since 2010, but the team took a big step in the right direction in defeating Kaukauna 43-20 on Friday night. West is now just one conference victory away from becoming postseason-eligible. Things were a bit bleak early on, as Kaukauna led 20-7 in the second quarter. However, Kohl ran for two touchdowns before halftime to put West ahead 23-20 and then tacked on a pair of passing scores in the third quarter to help put the game away. He finished with 273 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, rushing 12 times for 95 yards and 2 scores. He added an interception on defense as well.

Ethan Ritger, Fall Creek -- Fall Creek's Ethan Ritger set a new school record with 325 yards and 5 touchdowns on 34 carries last Friday, as the Crickets defeated Cadott 42-28 in a Cloverbelt Conference game. Ritger also threw for a 33-yard touchdown in the victory. Four of his rushing scores came after halftime, when the teams were tied at 14 points apiece, including a 36-yard scoring jaunt in the fourth quarter to help ice the game for Fall Creek.

Mike Timm, Kettle Moraine -- Kettle Moraine had come very close to scoring a victory over a perennial Classic Eight power a couple times this year, dropping the season-opener to Waukesha West by one point before falling to Arrowhead by two last week. The Lasers closed things out in Week 5 with a 21-14 victory against D1 tenth-ranked Muskego. Timm had a pair of short rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead two-yard score late in the third quarter. He was a beast on defense, recording 16 tackles.
