Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

Not much changed in the top of the Division 1 Coaches Poll this week, as Kimberly is a unanimous #1 choice. Franklin, Sun Prairie, Bay Port, and Fond du Lac round out the top five. Losses by Oak Creek (vs Franklin) and Muskego (vs Kettle Moraine) dropped those schools out of the poll, as Green Bay Preble and Middleton move into the rankings this week.

Division 2

Waunakee is a unanimous #1 team in Division 2, with Brookfield Central and Waukesha West close behind. Homestead's shutout loss to Whitefish Bay dropped the Highlanders from fourth to eighth this week. Also dropping down after a loss was Menasha, as the Blue Jay's 21-20 overtime shocker against New London caused them to fall from seventh to tenth. Stoughton is unbeaten and moves into the poll for the first time, entering at #9.

Division 3

Notre Dame remains #1 in this week's poll, but there were two other teams that got at least one number one vote: Catholic Memorial and Whitefish Bay. Those two come in second and third respectively once again. Whitnall's undefeated season has opened some eyes, as the Falcons move up a couple spots to tenth this week. New London's shocking 21-20 overtime win against Menasha allowed the Bulldogs to enter the poll, where they are tied for tenth with Fox Valley Lutheran, who drops a couple spots after suffering its first loss to Wrightstown.

Division 4

Saint Croix Central remains the top-ranked team in Division 4, but the big news was the showdown between #3 Lodi and #4 Lake Mills. It turned into a Lodi blowout, as the Blue Devils cruised home to a 55-25 road victory. Lake Mills drops to #9 this week, with most everyone else moving up one spot. Wrightstown's impressive 16-7 win over previously undefeated Fox Valley Lutheran allowed the Tigers to move up two spots to fourth.

Division 5

The voting was very tight once again, and after a 47-20 win over former #5 Bonduel, the Amherst Falcons narrowly move ahead of Stanley-Boyd for the #1 position in Division 5. Bonduel drops from fifth to seventh this week. Perennial power Lancaster moves into the rankings at #10.

Division 6

Saint Mary's Springs is once again the #1 team in Division 6, getting all but one first place vote this week. Grantsburg was the only other team to get a #1 ranking from any voters, as the Pirates remain second overall. Thanks to losses by Pecatonica/Argyle and Glenwood City, Mineral Point and Racine Lutheran move back into the poll this week.

Division 7

Edgar continues to dominate the Division 7 Coaches Poll, but once again Bangor did steal one #1 vote, ultimately coming in second. Black Hawk's impressive season keeps them unbeaten and at #3 this week. No ranked teams lost this week, with only one minor shuffling of the top ten.

8-Man Football

Luck keeps keepin' on, defeating Alma Center Lincoln in dominating fashion last week, 86-14, as the Cardinals remain atop the 8-Man poll, with Oakfield close behind. It was a rough week for the bottom half of the rankings however, as four teams went down. Green Bay NEW Lutheran and Alma Center Lincoln slip out of the rankings this week, while Wisconsin Heights (#9) and Abundant Life/St. Ambrose (#10) barely hang on. Mellen and Phillips are newcomers to this week's poll.
