Looking Back

A couple of the top teams over the last few years of 8-Man Football suffered their second straight defeats in Week 5. After going down to Wausaukee the previous game, Green Bay NEW Lutheran was blown out by Sevastopol, 50-14. The Pioneers rackd up 423 rushing yards in the game.

Also on Saturday, defending unofficial state champion Abundant Life/St. Ambrose went out of state to take on Lake Forest Academy from Illinois. It ended in a blowout, as Lake Forest won 46-8.

Fresh off a thrilling overtime victory against Abundant Life/St. Ambrose, the Wisconsin Heights squad had another tight one, but this time came out on the wrong end of a 41-40 decision against Phillips. The Loggers got a 43-yard touchdown run from Dakota Haberman with 2:43 left and converted the extra point, holding off the Vanguards for the win.

Last week we said that Alma Center Lincoln's game against Luck would be a great measuring stick for the first year program. The Hornets ran into a buzzsaw however, as Luck rolled to an 86-14 win, scoring 11 rushing touchdowns on 32 run plays.

Looking Ahead

Wisconsin Heights and Oakfield met in what was technically a non-conference game back in Week 1, as the Oaks got a 40-0 shutout victory. The teams meet for their official conference showdown on Thursday, this time at Wisconsin Heights, who has been playing better of late. Can they contain the explosive Oakfield offense, though?

Wausaukee has been solid in its first year as an 9-Man team, and will look to stay in contention for a spot in the Jamboree with a home game against Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas.

On Saturday, unbeaten Newman Catholic will travel to Gibraltar for a non-conference showdown.

Perhaps the best game of the week finds Prairie Farm hosting Northwood/Solon Springs. Prairie Farm is fourth in the latest WisSports.net Coaches Poll, while Northwood/Solon Springs comes in at #5.

Star of the Week: Bo Krueger, Gillett

Gillett is continuing to make strides in its first year competing in 8-Man Football, and the team got an exciting 35-28 overtime win against Gibraltar last week. The Tigers led 14-6 heading into the fourth quarter, and stretched the lead to 29-6 on two long Bo Krueger touchdown runs. Gibraltar wasn't done however, scoring three touchdowns to tie the game up and force overtime.

Krueger found the end zone again in the extra period, providing the only scoring as Gillett got a 34-28 victory. He would finish with 35 carries for 190 yards and four touchdowns in the game.
