Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

Kimberly narrowly kept its 62-game winning streak going, coming back to defeat Neenah 15-8. The Papermakers are once again the #1 team in the state, with Franklin, Sun Prairie, Bay Port, and Fond du Lac rounding out the top five. There were no losses by ranked teams last week, and just minor shuffling of the top ten.

Division 2

Waunakee continues to lead a loaded Division 2 field that features a state-best eight unbeaten teams heading into Week 7. A huge game looms this weekend between second-ranked Brookfield Central and fourth-ranked Brookfield East. The Greater Metro Conference rivals met twice last year, with Central winning in the regular season before East claimed a playoff victory en route to the D2 state title.

Division 3

There's another new #1 team in Division 3, where Notre Dame's loss to Bay Port dropped the Tritons from first to fourth. Undefeated Whitefish Bay leap-frogged one-loss Catholic Memorial, going from third to first this week. A loss by Rice Lake, its first, dropped the Warriors from sixth to ninth, while Onalaska enters this week's rankings at #10.

Division 4

Both teams stayed on course last week, and Middle Border rivals Saint Croix Central and Osceola are once again #1 in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll, setting up a huge matchup between the teams this week in Osceola. Losses by Kiel, Beloit Turner, and Freedom dropped the teams out of the rankings, while Platteville's defeat at the hands of Prairie du Chien caused the Hillmen to fall from 6th to 10th. New teams this week are Sheboygan Falls, West Salem, and Berlin.

Division 5

It is very tight once again, but Amherst remains atop the Division 5 poll, with Stanley-Boyd close behind. Clinton, who just keeps taking down larger teams in the Rock Valley, is third. After taking down fellow unbeaten Platteville last week, Prairie du Chien sneaks into the rankings in a tie for tenth with SWC rival Lancaster.

Division 6

Saint Mary's Springs is once again on top of the Division 6 poll, with Grantsburg right behind. With no ranked teams losing last week, there was little change in the poll.

Division 7

Not much changed in Division 7 this week, where Edgar is a unanimous #1 team, with Bangor and Black Hawk right behind in near-unanimous fashion as well. Fall River's win over Johnson Creek dropped the Bluejays out of the rankings, while the Pirates move in at #10. A total of seven teams are unbeaten this year.

8-Man Football

While Luck continues to be the top-ranked team in 8-Man Football, Oakfield is closing the gap, and snagged a couple #1 votes in this week's poll. Newman Catholic joins those two as the only undefeated teams in the division and is ranked third once again. Prairie Farm suffered its first loss of the year to Northwood/Solon Springs, dropping the Panthers from fourth to sixth this week. Moving into the poll this week are Gillett, Wausaukee, and Green Bay NEW Lutheran.
