The Shorewood/Messmer football team was eliminated from playoff contention heading into a Week 9 Woodland Conference crossover with Wisconsin Lutheran, but there was no quit in the co-op program.

Wisco needed to win to get in the playoffs, and it seemed the Vikings would get the job done, as they led 22-14 late in the fourth quarter and had a first down at the Shorewood/Messmer 13-yard line. However, Shorewood/Messmer held, as sophomore defensive back Sam Campbell broke up a 4th down pass near the goal line to allow the Greyhounds to take over.

Quarterback Aaron Eimers lost three yards on first down, but got things turned around quickly, as the team would march a total of 91 yards in 17 plays, capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Eimers to Eli Rivera with just 13 seconds remaining. Eimers then completed the game-tying two-point conversion to Jathon Turner to force overtime.

Shorewood/Messmer got the ball first, converting a 4th and four play before scoring on a 14-yard run from Eimers on the next play.

Rivera would close the game out, sacking the Wisconsin Lutheran quarterback and jarring the ball loose, which was recovered by Greyhounds' junior linebacker Bobby Joehnk to end the game.

The loss kept Wisconsin Lutheran out of the playoffs for the first time since the Vikings joined the WIAA in 2000. Shorewood/Messmer finishes the season with a 4-5 overall record.
