Many high school football standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. If you have alumni news, please send it to Colton Wilson by 4 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Alumni Update

Joe Schobert, who until two years ago held the division 1 record for rushing yards in a state game in Wisconsin high school history, is steadily becoming one of the more productive linebackers in the NFL. The Waukesha West product finished the Cleveland Brown’s 33-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with a game high 11 tackles and his first career interception. Schobert’s 70 tackles ranks him second in the NFL this season.

Second ranked UW-Oshkosh squeaked out a 31-28 victory over UW-River Falls thanks in large part to a pair of in-state alumni. Mitch Gerhaltz (Hortonville) rushed for 2 scores including the go-ahead touchdown late in the 4th quarter. Dom Todarello (Arrowhead) returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, had a receiving score, and totaled 255 all-purpose yards for the Tritons. Todarello’s performance earned him WIAC’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

In other WIAC play, Nick Holcomb is putting up gaudy numbers for UW-La Crosse. The Germanton grad had 7 catches for 138 yards and 2 scores in La Crosse’s 27-20 win over UW-Platteville. He now has a league-leading 1,050 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on the year. The Amherst graduate had a season high 12 rushes for 51 yards and a score in the Badger’s 24-10 win over the University of Illinois. Alec Ingold (Bay Port) also rushed for a score. Defensively, Alec James (Brookfield East) wreaked havoc on the Illinois backfield recording 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. That recovery came after Tyler Johnson (Menasha) sacked the opposing quarterback and forced the fumble. Also, Joe Ferguson (Madison Memorial) had his second interception of the season from the safety position.

Three players around the NCAA added to their receiving touchdown total on the year this past weekend. Jester Weah (Madison Memorial) caught his 4th score in Pittsburgh’s 31-14 win over Virginia.
