Amherst's Marcus Glodowski had a big game for the Falcons

Marcus Glodowski was a factor in every facet of the game, and it's a good thing he played for Amherst, as the Falcons got a huge game from the senior quarterback/do-everything-man to capture a hard-fought 28-21 victory over Lake Country Lutheran in the Division 5 state championship game.

It marks the third straight Division 5 state title for the Falcons, who have now won four championships in the last six years.

Amherst got on the board on the first possession of the game, as Glodowski capped a 72-yard drive with a one-yard scoring plunge. It remained 7-0 in favor of the Falcons until early in the second quarter, when Lake Country Lutheran's Ethan Wilkins connected with Michael Schumacher for a 15-yard score to pull the Lightning even.

Amherst responded with a 69-yard scoring drive capped by a 27-yard Glodowski touchdown run, though Lake Country Lutheran answered with touchdown drive on the next possession, sending the game to halftime tied at 14.

Lake Country Lutheran took its first and only lead of the game in the third quarter following a blocked punt. Taking over at the Amherst 12-yard line, Ethan Wilkins found Schumacher again on the first play to put the Lightning up 21-14.

Amherst knotted the game up again on the next possession, when Glodowski again went in for a short rushing score.

Glodowski scored his fourth and final rushing touchdown with 6:52 left in the fourth quarter, putting Amherst up 28-21.

Lake Country Lutheran had one final chance, taking over at its own seven-yard line with 3:10 left in the game. It was Glodowski again, this time on defense, making a big play, picking off a Wilkins pass. Amherst ran out the clock the rest of the way to secure the victory.

Glodowski finished with a new Division 5 state finals record 269 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries. He added 49 yards passing, 30 yards in kickoff returns, a 50-yard punt, and the game-sealing interception.

Ethan Wilkins threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns for Lake Country Lutheran.
