The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

We begin our WSN15 series with the Top 15 Moments of the WSN Era.

Top 15 Moments: #5 - Homestead squeaks by Arrowhead in third-straight title game match-up

Arrowhead and Homestead are two of the top programs in the state, and from 2006 to 2008 the teams met up each year in the Division 1 state championship game.

In the first match-up, Homestead dominated 35-0 in 2006, putting a running clock on Arrowhead late in the contest, as the Highlanders out-gained the Warhawks 350-132.

Arrowhead rebounded for a dominating 31-7 victory in the 2007 contest, blowing open a 10-7 halftime game with three, third-quarter touchdowns.

That set the stage for the rubber match in 2008, as both teams entered undefeated. It was a heavyweight match from the beginning, and the first quarter was scoreless.

Future All-Big Ten kicker Jeff Budzien gave Arrowhead the first points of the game with a 32-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter. A short time later, Arrowhead linebacker Derek Landisch blocked a punt, which Homestead recovered in its own end zone for a safety.

Momentum changed quickly however, as Tom Engel picked off Tom Parish on the ensuing drive, returning it 42 yards for a Homestead touchdown and 7-5 lead.

It remained that score until late in the third quarter, when Homestead marched 82 yards in seven plays for a score, going up 13-5.

Arrowhead's Calvin Ramsey rushed for a 34-yard drive with 2:30 left in the game, completing an 87-yard drive to pull within two points, but the two-point conversion pass was no good, leaving Homestead with a 13-11 advantage.

Homestead recovered the ensuing on-side kick, and was able to run out the clock thanks to a fourth and one conversion.

Turnovers played a key part in the game, as each team turned it over three times.

There were a number of future Division 1 athletes in the game, including Derek Landisch (Wisconsin), Tom Parish (Minnesota), Jared Volk (Northern Illinois) and Jeff Budzien (Northwestern) from Arrowhead, along with Ben Gardner (Stanford) and Shelby Harris (Wisconsin, Illinois State) for Homestead.

The Arrowhead-Homestead series remains the only time in state history that two teams have met in three straight title games.
