Boys Basketball Alumni Round-up: December 20th

Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. Alumni Update

As Christmas fast approaches, and finals near for college students, games will be on a bit of a hiatus this week and the following. Last week saw limited action compared to weeks past as some schools have already commenced finals.

In Wisconsin’s thrilling 81-80 win over Western Kentucky last Wednesday, Brevin Pritzl, formerly of De Pere, tied his career high with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting. On the other side of the ball, Germantown graduate Lamonte Bearden had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Former Dominican High School and Marquette University athlete Duane Wilson has found a new home in the SEC at Texas A&M. Wilson had 14 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds for the Aggies in their 113-66 victory over Savannah State. He is averaging 11.4 points per game on the season.

Former Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin Sam Dekker has started seeing more minutes with the Los Angeles Clippers and is taking advantage of it. The Sheboygan Lutheran alumn had two games scoring double digits for the Clippers this past week in his extended playing time.

G-E-T graduates Nick and Tim Wagner are playing at the next level and playing well. Nick plays for Iowa Lake Community College and had 18 points in a 105-85 defeat to Iowa Western Community College. Tim had a season high 26 points for Harding University in their 79-72 loss to Hawaii Pacific this past week. Both are averaging right around 16 points per game.

Another Wagner not from G-E-T had a monster week last week. Caleb Wagner of Muskego had 16 points and 11 assists for Winona State in their 88-60 victory over Waldorf University last Tuesday. He followed that up by tallying 20 points, 6 assists, and 7 rebounds in Winona State’s 69-62 victory over Upper Iowa on Saturday.

In Southwestern Athletic Conference play, Julian Waters had a great first week of action for Alabama A&M. The Madison Memorial alum averaged 14 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5 assists, while shooting 64% from the field in his first 2 games of the season. Devante Jackson (Brown Deer) had 16 points and 11 rebounds in Grambling’s 68-67 win over Southeast Louisiana in other SWAC play.

Ashwaubenon alumn Kyle Monroe continues his early season tear for Michigan Tech. He had 24 points and 11 rebounds in their 77-65 loss to Northern Michigan this past week.

In St. Cloud State’s 80-68 win over Minnesota Duluth, each team was led by an in-state athlete. Duluth’s Brandon Myer (Superior) had 30 points, and 9 rebounds, shooting 11-13 from the field. Jon Averkamp (Germantown) had 23 points for St. Cloud State.

In WIAC play, Alex Herink put up 24 points and 11 rebounds in UW-River Falls’ 69-65 come from behind win. The former Hudson standout had 20 points in the second half as his performance garnered him WIAC’s Player of the Week.

Malcolm Mabry was a double-double machine this past week for McKendree University. The Milwaukee South High School alum averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds in 3 games for McKendree.

Whitefish Bay standout Joe Sherburne has been putting together a very good season thus far for UMBC. He is averaging 11 points per game. This past week, Sherburne scored in the double digits in wins over Coppin State and North Kentucky.

Loyola Marymount’s leading scorer James Batemon may have outdone himself this past Sunday. The former Milwaukee Riverside standout had 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in an 80-77 loss to Washington. Batemon is averaging 18.1 ponts, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on the young season.
