Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. Reed Timmer has been nothing but spectacular this season for the Drake Bulldogs. The New Berlin Eisenhower graduate continued his great season by posting 28 points in the Bulldog’s 87-62 win over Illinois State and following that up by scoring 18 in a 75-72 win over Indiana State. Timmer has moved into second all-time on Drake’s scoring list and was also named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performance this past week.

Since coming off the transfer waiver period, Sandy Cohen III has been a lightning rod for UW-Green Bay. The Seymour alum has averaged 16.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this semester, scoring a career high 27 points in Green Bay’s 85-74 loss to Youngstown state on Saturday.

Madison Memorial has had some great basketball players come through its program. Wes Matthews may be one of the best. Matthews, in his ninth NBA season had two games scoring over 20 points for the Dallas Mavericks last week. In those two games, he shot 14-25 from the field.

Lindenwood University has gotten contributions across the board from many in-state athletes and this past week was no different. Brad Newman (Brookfield Central) scored 31 points in 2 games against Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma. Chandler Diekvoss (West De Pere) had a double-double against Northeastern State, while Max Meylor (Mount Horeb) had 14 points and Adam Pohlman (Neenah) had 13 assists against Central Oklahoma.

Paul Miller continues to put up gaudy numbers for North Dakota State. The Kettle Moraine graduate scored a career high 36 points, while shooting 7 of 11 from beyond the arc in the Bison’s 87-80 loss to South Dakota State last Wednesday. He followed that up by recording 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in an 84-79 win over South Dakota on Saturday.

The Northern Sun continues to showcase in-state talent from multiple teams across the conference. Harrison Cleary of Oak Creek has been a scoring machine in his first year and a half at Minnesota Crookston. The sophomore guard scored 30 points in Crookston’s 75-71 loss to Minnesota Duluth. That scoring output has led Cleary to eclipse the 1,000 point mark just 15 games into his sophomore season.

Brandon Myer continued his hot hand for Minnesota Duluth. In his showdown with Cleary, Myer scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds. He followed that up by scoring 21 points in a 62-57 win over Bemidji State. This led the Superior alum to his second Northern Sun North Division Player of the Week honors.

Two other players set scoring highs in Northern Sun play last week. Nathan Moore (SJNMA) scored 22 points in Minot State’s 87-62 win over Minnesota Moorhead on Friday. Freshman Kevion Taylor (Whitnall) had 21 points and 11 rebounds in Winona State’s 78-75 victory over Southwest Minnesota State that same day.

Levi Bradley recorded his second double-double of the season, recording 24 points and 14 rebounds in Northern Illinois’ 75-61 win over Kent State. He followed that up with a 14 point, 6 rebound performance in a 78-68 loss to Ohio. The Pius XI grad went 17 of 17 from the charity stripe in those two games.

Four Division 2 players set season highs in scoring this past week. Nate Neveau (Oshkosh North) had 19 points, 4 assists and 4 steals in Hillsdale’s 68-62 win over Lake Erie. Isaiah Johnson (Whitefish Bay) had 26 points in Northern Michigan’s 75-56 win over Tiffin. Tim Harding (G-E-T) recorded 28 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds in Harding’s 100-93 loss to Oklahoma Baptist. Da’Rion King (Racine Case) had 20 points in East Central University’s 109-75 win over Henderson State on Thursday. He then set a new high with 21 points in an 87-66 win over Ouachita on Saturday.

Mitchell Reinthaler (Rhinelander) had 18 points and 8 rebounds in St. Norbert’s 73-57 win over Beloit College on Wednesday. Later in the week, he had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 97-85 win over Grinnell College. He was named Midwest Conference’s Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Brett Tauber was an unsung hero for UW-Stevens Point in their two victories last week. The Madison Memorial graduate had 13 rebounds in Point’s 73-48 win over UW-River Falls on Wednesday. He then had his second double-double of the season, recording 11 points and 12 rebounds in the 68-65 win over UW-Stout. For his performance, Tauber was named the WIAC’s Player of the Week.

In other WIAC play, Jack Flynn (Appleton West) had 24 points, shooting a perfect 9 of 9 from the field, and hauling in 10 rebounds in UW-Oshkosh’s 72-65 win over UW-La Crosse. He also had 11 points and 11 rebounds in an 83-57 loss to UW-Whitewater.

Lastly, Storm Murphy recorded a career high 17 points for Wofford University in their 109-92 win over The Citadel. The Middleton graduate, and Wofford freshman shot 6 of 10 from the field.
