Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

While there were a few postponements in the last week due to weather and travel concerns, it was yet another high-scoring week of action in the WCC. UW-Marathon scored a couple nice victories, beginning with a 90-58 win over UW-Fond du Lac last Wednesday. On Saturday, the Huskies snuck out a two-point victory over visiting UW-Fox Valley, as Tarrin St. Germaine led five players in double figures with 15 points.

With Fox Valley's loss, the Cyclones are now three games behind UW-Washington in the East Division standings. The much-anticipated division leader showdown between Washington and Rock last Wednesday was canceled. Rock did score a 92-78 win over Fond du Lac on Saturday.

Looking Ahead

There are five games on the WCC schedule this evening. UW-Marathon has looked very good in winning three straight games, and the Huskies take on another team on a hot streak as they travel to UW-Marinette, winners of four straight. Also this evening, West Division leader UW-Rock travels to UW-Sheboygan. Rock gets a home game Friday night against UW-Marinette.

There are five games on the schedule for Saturday. The Sheboygan Wombats have another tough test, as they go on the road to UW-Marathon. A tough week for Rock wraps up with a home game against second place Fox Valley.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Rudy Montoya, UW-Manitowoc

UW-Manitowoc picked up a pair of victories last week, and several players had big roles. In a 104-88 win over Baraboo on Wednesday, Rudy Montoya had 19 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. He took it up a notch on Saturday at UW-Richland, scoring 27 points with 18 rebounds. For the season the Two Rivers graduate is averaging 21 points and 9 rebounds per game.
