WFSCA announces 2018 Hall of Fame Inductee Class

The Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association has announced its 2018 Hall of Fame Inductions. 

Don Bjelland, Tom Drohner, Doug Mock and Cindy Suess will be inducted into the WFSCA Hall of Fame at the Coaches Awards Banquet on February 24. 

Below are the biographies of the class of 2018, courtesy of the WFSCA. 

Don Bjelland - Grantsburg High School
Presented by: Callie Olson and Mollie Bjelland

Don Bjelland has been the head coach at Grantsburg High School for 21 years, starting the Pirate softball program in 1996. He has coached in 466 games with a career record of 406-60. The Pirates playoff record is 56-16 that includes: 15 regional titles, 8 sectional titles, state championship titles in 2006 & 2009, and state runner-up in 2016. Don has 17 conference championships and has coached an All-Star team in 2004 & 2013. Don has been married to Debbie for 43 years and have four children: Torrie, Jeremy (Nicole), Callie (Mitch), and Mollie (along with 7 grandchildren). All four children competed in a WIAA State Tournament, and the three girls went on to compete in Division II Volleyball. Mollie was also a 4-year starter in softball and a 1st team All American at Winona State University.

Tom Drohner – Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH)

Tom Drohner has been a coach at Stevens Point Area Senior High for 20 years. He has coached in 533 games during that time picking up 468 wins, and continues to coach with a current record of 468-65 through the 2017 season. He has won 19 conference championships, 17 regional championships and 14 sectional championships. SPASH advanced to the state tournament 14 times, and has won the state championship in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2016. Also with a runner-up in 2000 under his tenure. He is the only coach in Wisconsin state softball history to win 4 consecutive state championships from 2001 thru 2004. He has helped develop 48 first team All-State players, won 18 consecutive Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) championships, coached 2 Gatorade Players of the Year, and 3 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (WFSCA) Players of the Year, and 12 WVC Players of the Year. He was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coach of the Year for the State of Wisconsin four times (2004, 2008, 2009, and 2011). Tom has been married to his wife Kate Drohner since 1994, and they have four children; DJ, Aubrey, Avery, and Tommy. His daughter Aubrey, helped win the 2016 state championship for SPASH, and was named the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Co-Player of the Year in the 2016 softball season.

Doug Mock– Oakfield High School

Doug Mock coached varsity softball for 21 years at Oakfield. He coached in 484 games with a record of 383 - 101. His teams won 8 Conference Championships, 17 Regional Championships and 9 Sectional Championships. Oakfield advanced to the State Tournament 9 times and won the State Championship in 1997, 2001 and 2009 with a Runner-up in 2004. Doug has been married to his wife Stacy, since 1988, and they have four sons Darin, Jordan, Brenden and Ayden.

Cindy Suess- Oshkosh North High School, UW Oshkosh, Verona Area High School

Cindy Suess coached softball at Verona for 12 seasons, she directed the Wildcats to a 228-49 record, 5 state tournament appearances and 8 Badger Conference championships. Verona finished second at the WIAA Division 1 state tournament in 2001 and 2002. Cindy was head coach at UW Oshkosh for 9 seasons, she lead the Titans to a record of 229-140-1 (.620 winning percentage). She was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year in 2007 and 2013. UW Oshkosh finished in the top-three of the WIAC six times under Suess, including a league title in 2007. That year, she guided the Titans to a 36-11 record and a postseason berth in the NCAA Division III championship. In 2008, UW-Oshkosh went 32-11 and reached the regional championship game — one victory away from the NCAA Division III World Series. The Titans finished second in the WIAC during 2005, 2006 and 2008. For the past four years, Cindy has coached the Oshkosh North Spartans to an 82-31 record, 2 state tournament appearances, and a conference title in 2017. Four consecutive winning records in four years as coach. Prior to this, one winning record in the past 16 years. Cindy’s husband, Graeme Robertson has served as her assistant coach for many years.
