Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. If you have alumni news, please send it to Colton Wilson by 6 p.m. on Mondays.

Alumni Update

Former Ashwaubenon High School standout Kyle Monroe has been scoring at an extremely high rate this season for Division 2 Michigan Tech. Last Thursday, Monroe put up a school record 50 points in a 105-94 double overtime loss to Saginaw Valley State. Along with his gaudy scoring total, he recorded 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. For that performance, Monroe was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s North Player of the Week.

Two former Wisconsin all-state selections had incredible weeks in the NBA G-League this past week. Bronson Koenig (Aquinas) averaged 17 points, while shooting 58 percent from the field in three Grand Rapids Drive wins. 2015 Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin and Dominican High School graduate Diamond Stone averaged over 21 points and 10 rebounds in three games for the Salt Lake City Stars.

Matt Heldt knocked down two clutch free throws in the closing seconds of Marquette’s 88-85 win over Seton Hall Wednesday to help clinch the game for the Golden Eagles. The Neenah grad had 10 points and 8 rebounds in the win, while teammate Sam Hauser (Stevens Point) had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

In an 83-71 win for Rockhurst University over McKendree University, two former Badger state high school graduates battled it out. Eddie Muench (Ripon) had 17 points, including 5 threes for Rockhurst, while Malcolm Maby (Milwaukee South) had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals for McKendree.

Two Division 2 players had 20 point scoring outtings this past week. Adam Bonk (Manitowoc Lincoln) had 24 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals in UW-Parkside’s 78-67 win over Quincy on Thursday. Tim Wagner (G-E-T) had 26 points, including half of the overtime points in Harding’s 72-69 overtime win over Oklahoma Baptist.

It’s an impressive feat to score 1,000 points at any level, whether it be high school or college. What’s even more impressive and rare; having teammates surpass the 1,000 point mark in the same game. That was the case Saturday as both Charlie Noone of (Lourdes) and Ben Boots (Kimberly) each surpassed the 1,000 point mark as UW-Oshkosh beat UW-La Crosse 70-54.

In other WIAC play, Isaac Elliot had an incredible week for UW-Stout. The Pacelli alum had 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists in Stout’s 82-81 win over UW-River Falls on Wednesday. He followed it up with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in an 80-63 loss to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. He knocked down 8 threes in those 2 games. For his performance, he was named the WIAC Player of the Week.

Four different Division 1 players recorded double-doubles this past week.

Darral Willis Jr. (Madison Memorial) had 13 points and 12 rebounds, recording his fifth double-double of the season in Wichita State’s 85-65 victory over Memphis on Tuesday.

Seymour graduate Sandy Cohen III had 21 points and 10 rebounds in UW-Green Bay’s 68-64 loss to Wright State Thurday.

In West Coast Conference play, James Batemon recorded his first double-double of the season in Loyola Marymount’s 85-79 win over Pepperdine Saturday. The Milwaukee Riverside product had 13 points and 10 assists.

Lastly, Bennech Koch (Ashwaubenon) had 11 points and 11 rebounds in Northern Iowa’s 71-64 loss to Drake on Saturday. This was his third double-double of the season.

The two UW-Oshkosh boys weren’t the only ones joining the 1,000 point club this past week. Jordan Perez scored 22 points and hauled in 8 rebounds in Northern Michigan’s 80-72 victory over Northwood on Thursday. With that scoring output, the Greendale High School grad crossed the 1,000 mark in his career.

Malik Clements (Madison West) recorded a double this past week by posting 13 points and 12 rebounds in Alaska Anchorage’s 7–54 win over Central Washington on Saturday.

In Northern Sun play, Logan Bader (Unity) had 22 points and 12 rebounds in Bemidji State’s 80-73 victory over Moorhead on Friday. Brandon Myer (Superior) did a little bit of everything in Minnesota Duluth’s 80-78 double overtime win over Minot State on Friday. Myer had 25 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks in the victory.

In Midwest Conference play, St. Norbert College was aided greatly by many in-state recruits in their 104-94 win over Grinnell College on Saturday. Riley Haas (Ripon), Brennen Banks (Evansville), Connor Curtis (Green Bay Preble), Joe Lemon (Brookfield Academy), Brian Luteyn (Fond du Lac), and Mitchell Reinthaler (Rhinelander) all scored in double figures. Both Luteyn and Reinthaler recorded double digit rebounding totals as well.

In other Midwest Conference play, Tristan Shoup (Fort Atkinson) filled up the box score as he had 16 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in Beloit College’s 82-58 win over Illinois College on Wednesday. He followed that up with 20 points, 14 rebounds 6 assists, and 4 steals in a 71-54 win over Knox College on Saturday. For that output, he was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
