By Travis Wilson

Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

Marathon was a runaway winner of the WCC women's basketball title, and despite a final game loss to UW-Marinette, Waukesha had secured second place. That left a race for third as the biggest storyline of the last week.

As mentioned, Marinette defeated Waukesha 71-64 on Saturday. Meanwhile, Fond du Lac scored wins over Manitowoc and Washington, as Fond du Lac and Marinette finished tied for third at 8-5. When it came to playoff seeding, Marinette was awarded the third-seed based on the tiebreaker procedure.

Looking Ahead

The WCC women's basketball playoffs are now set. Quarterfinal games for the women's teams will be held Saturday, February 17th. The semifinals and finals are at JustAGame Fieldhouse for the WCC State Tournament.

WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Tori Wangerin, UW-Marinette

UW-Marinette fell to Bay College (MI) in a non-conference game on Wednesday, but the Buccaneers scored a huge victory in their regular season finale, topping second-place Waukesha 71-64 on the road. The win moved Marinette into a tie for third and gave them the #3 seed over Fond du Lac in the playoffs. Tori Wangerin had a double-double, pouring in 18 points to go with 20 rebounds.
