The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

The WSN15 boys' basketball series continues with the Top 15 Teams of the WSN Era.

After losing to Brown Deer in 2015 and Waupun in 2016 in WIAA Division 3 state-championship games, Appleton Xavier was poised to break through with a state title in 2017.

And that's exactly what the Hawks did -- in more than convincing fashion.

The Hawks won all 28 of their contests, including a resounding 73-47 victory over Prescott in the state-title game at the Kohl Center in Madison, en route to winning their first WIAA state title in boys' basketball after winning state crowns in the Wisconsin Independent Schools Athletic Association in 1963 and 2005.

Xavier most often was dominant as just six teams came within 10 points of the Hawks and no team came closer than six points.

The Hawks' high-octane offense averaged 82.6 points per game and reached 102 or more points on three occasions.

Skilled junior guards Hunter Plamann and Sam Ferris led the way for the Hawks by averaging 21.6 and 14.6 points, respectively. Junior forward Nate DeYoung added 11.9 ppg while senior guard Cal Christensen added 9.3 ppg.

Xavier won the Bay Conference for the second straight season and averaged a whopping 22.2 assists per outing while making 244 three-point field goals, an average of 8.7 triples per game.

Xavier won its six WIAA playoff games by an average of 22.2 ppg, paced by a 68-26 triumph over Little Chute in a sectional semifinal.

In short, the Hawks simply dominated the Division 3 field.

Xavier went on to win its first 21 games of the 2017-18 season in order to extend its winning streak to 49 in a row heading into a matchup with Menasha on Thursday.
