Senior Girls Basketball Awards: Defense Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 15 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. 

Brooke Freitag, Osseo-Fairchild -- Freitag averaged 15.3 points and 4 steals per game en route to being named Cloverbelt-West Player of Year. The NCAA Division III UW-Oshkosh recruit led Osseo-Fairchild to a 18-5 record. 

Hannah Jones, Dodgeville -- Jones averaged 24.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 5.2 steals per game for the Dodgers. The NCAA Division II Sioux Falls recruit led Dodgevile (21-3) to the SWC title and a Division 3 regional final appearance. 

Brianna Leahy, Shullsburg -- Leahy, a WBCA all-state pick last season, is averaging 15.3 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 5.9 blocks per game for the Miners. She led Shullsburg to a share of the Six Rivers-West title and 21-5 record heading into Saturday's Division 5 sectional final against Bangor. 

Kyah Steiner, Aquinas -- Steiner is averaging 9.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game for the Blugolds. The NCAA Division III UW-La Crosse recruit has helped Aquinas to an undefeated record (25-0) entering a Division 4 sectional final against Cambridge. She helped the Blugolds finish as the D4 state runner-up last season. 

Emma Wittmershaus, Bangor -- Wittmershaus, a WBCA all-state selection last season, is averaging 16.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, to go along with blocking and altering shots on defense. The NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee recruit has led the Cardinals to a Division 5 sectional final on Saturday against Shullsburg. Last season, she led Bangor to a state tournament appearance.
