The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

The WSN15 boys' basketball series continues with the Top 15 Teams of the WSN Era.

Winning 28 games without a single defeat is certainly an outstanding achievement.

Doing so while outscoring your opponents by an average of nearly 30 points per game is almost unheard of.

And yet that is exactly what Germantown High School accomplished during the 2011-12 season under coach Steve Showalter.

The Warhawks were absolutely dominant in almost every game they played that winter, though Germantown most certainly was pushed to the wire in the WIAA Division 1 state championship game played at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Facing off against a Milwaukee King squad that was 24-1 under coach Jim Gosz, Germantown posted a hard-earned 72-69 victory in a game that featured seven ties and eight lead changes.

Senior guard Zak Showalter (6-3) scored 22 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four assists to lead the Warhawks, who went on to win Division 1 state titles in 2013 and 2014 and in the process established a state record for most consecutive victories at 69 in a row.

Showalter, the son of the head coach, went on to play four years of college basketball at the University of Wisconsin.

Junior Luke Fischer (6-10) contributed 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots for Germantown, which took the lead for good with 6:25 left in the fourth period on a three-point basket by senior point guard Josh Mongan (5-10).

Fischer went on to play three-plus years at Marquette while Mongan played NCAA Division II basketball at Winona State.

Senior forward Daniel Studer (6-7) contributed nine points and six rebounds while sophomore Jake Showalter (6-2) came off the bench to score nine points for Germantown.

Studer played at UW-Milwaukee while Jake Showalter played at North Dakota State, Lindenwood and UW-Platteville.

Germantown used an effective and relentless full-court pressure defensive system to score easy baskets off of turnovers. The Warhawks averaged 79.6 points per game while their stingy half-court defense allowed a mere 49.8 ppg.
