2018 Girls State Tournament wrap-up with WisSports.net All-Tournament Team

The 43rd WIAA Girls' State Tournament was held at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Appleton North and Beaver Dam repeated as state champions. 

Marshall won its first state title since 1977, Aquinas took home its first-ever WIAA state championship and Bangor won its first state title since 1997. 

Division 1

Appleton North won its second straight Division 1 state championship (5th state appearance), cruising past Mukwonago 45-32 in the title game. The Lightning finished the year with a 24-4 record. Appleton North was the top-ranked team in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10.

D1 semifinals: 
4-seed Appleton North beat 1-seed Arrowhead 52-38
2-seed Mukwonago beat 3-seed Oak Creek 58-48

Division 2

Beaver Dam captured its second consecutive Division 2 state championship (4th state appearance), defeating New Berlin Eisenhower 51-41 in the title game. The Golden Beavers finished the year with a 25-2 record, with both losses coming against out-of-state opponents. Beaver Dam entered the season as the top-ranked team in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10.

D2 semifinals: 
1-seed Beaver Dam beat 4-seed Hortonville 54-43
3-seed New Berlin Eisenhower beat 2-seed Monroe 67-63

Division 3

Marshall won its first state title since 1977 and its third state championship overall in as many appearances, edging Amherst 63-55 in the title game. The Cardinals finished the year with a 27-1 record. Marshall was listed among the honorable mention teams in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10 rankings.  

D3 semifinals: 
1-seed Marshall beat 4-seed Wisconsin Dells 58-47
2-seed Amherst beat 3-seed St. Thomas More 45-32

Division 4

Aquinas won its first-ever WIAA state championship (2nd state appearance) and completed a perfect 28-0 season, cruising past Melrose-Mindoro 68-52 in the title game. The Blugolds were ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10. 

D4 semifinals: 
1-seed Aquinas beat 4-seed Crandon 75-38
2-seed Melrose-Mindoro beat 3-seed Manitowoc Lutheran 64-30

Division 5

Bangor won its first state title since 1997 (3rd state appearance), beating previously unbeaten Black Hawk 39-29 in the title game. The Cardinals finished the season with a 26-3 record. Bangor was ranked No. 3 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10.

D5 semifinals: 
2-seed Bangor beat 3-seed Clayton 57-54
1-seed Black Hawk beat 4-seed Newman Catholic 57-31

WISSPORTS.NET ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

Lexi Donarski, soph., Aquinas -- Donarski led the Blugolds to their first-ever WIAA state championship. She finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks and a steal in a 68-52 win over previously unbeaten Melrose-Mindoro in the Division 4 state championship game. The 5-foot-10 point guard and Iowa State recruit tallied 13 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals in the Blugolds route of Crandon, 75-38, in a state semifinal. 

Julia Hintz, jr., New Berlin Eisenhower -- Hintz netted 18 points, including going 5 of 7 from behind the arc in the Lions' win over Monroe, 67-63, in a Division 2 state semifinal. She added 5 assists in the victory. The 5-foot-6 point guard scored 10 point, and added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in a 51-41 loss to Beaver Dam in the title game. 

Caitlyn Harper, sr., Arrowhead -- Harper (6-1) finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in the Warhawks loss to Appleton North, 52-38, in a state semi-final. The NCAA Division I California Baptist recruit shot 8 of 15 from the floor and made 2 of 5 three-pointers. 

Sydney Hilliard, jr., Monroe -- Hilliard finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in the Cheesemakers' 67-63 loss to New Berlin Eisenhower in a state semifinal. The 5-foot-10 point guard shot 9 of 15 from the floor, 5-for-5 from free throw line and 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Hilliard has numerous Division I offers, including Wisconsin and Marquette. 

Sydney Levy, sr., Appleton North -- Levy led the Lightning to their second straight Division 1 state championship. She finished with game-highs of 17 points and 7 rebounds, and added 2 steals and an assist in a 45-32 victory against Mukwonago in the title game. The 5-foot-8 guard and UW-Milwaukee recruit finished with game-highs of 20 points and 9 rebounds in Appleton North's 52-38 victory over Arrowhead in a state semifinal. 

Macy McGlone, soph., Hortonville -- McGlone, a 6-foot-2 forward, totaled 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals in the Polar Bears' loss to Beaver Dam, 54-43, in a Division 2 state semifinal. The Division I prospect went 8-for-16 from the floor. 

Katelyn Meister, jr., Wisconsin Dells -- Meister scored a game-high 26 points in the Chiefs' loss to Marshall, 58-47, in a Division 3 state semifinal. The 5-foot-10 wing added 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Katelyn went 7-for-18 from the field, 10-for-10 from the free throw line and connected on 2 of her 5 three-pointers. 

Mia Morel, frosh., Marshall -- Morel led the Cardinals to the Division 3 state championship. She had a near triple-double of 16 points, 9 rebounds and 9 steals in a 58-47 win over Wisconsin Dells in a Division 3 state seminal. The 5-foot-7 point guard scored a game-high 21 points, including going 7 of 8 from the free throw line in a 63-55 win over Amherst in the state championship game. Morel also contributed 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in the victory. 

Heather Pearson, sr., Amherst -- Pearson finished with 17 points and 20 rebounds, while also contributing a steal and a block in the Falcons' 45-32 win over St. Thomas More in a Division 3 state semifinal. The 6-foot-1 UW-Oshkosh recruit totaled 16 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocks and 2 steals in a 63-55 loss to Marshall in the championship game. 

Maty Wilke, frosh., Beaver Dam -- Wilke helped lead the Golden Beavers to the Division 2 state title. She scored a game-high 19 points, and added 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 steals and a block in a 54-43 victory against Hortonville in a state semifinal. The 5-foot-10 guard netted a game-high 16 points, while also contributing 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals in Beaver Dam's 51-41 victory against New Berlin Eisenhower in the title game. The Division I prospect has numerous offers, including all four in-state programs. 

Emma Wittmershaus, sr., Bangor -- Wittmershaus led Bangor to the Division 5 state championship. The 6-foot-3 forward finished with game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds in the Cardinals' 57-54 win over Clayton in a D5 state semifinal. She added 2 steals and 2 blocks in the win. The UW-Milwaukee recruit tallied 9 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals and an assist in a 39-29 victory against Black Hawk in the title game.
