It is my understanding that he got injured last night thanks to dumb ass Odom getting in the way. With as inconsistent as Odom, Artest, and the bench have been lately, the Lakers could definitely blow that lead if Kobe sits out. He has the All-Star break coming up, that should be adequate time for him to re-charge.

Notice how quiet you are on this subject. The Lakers have beaten the likes of Portland(away), San Antonio (home), and Utah (away). All 3 are playoff caliber teams, pretty impressive feat, as the Lakers have extended there lead in the Western conference without Kobe on the floor.

Why not just rest until the all-star break though? They play Denver, San Antonio, Portland and Utah before the break and Kobe's going to have to bust his ass through those games to win and then he only gets a 5 day break. Take the long 2 week vacation and enjoy it. Get some rest and come back with a vengance, because right now he's only hurting the Lakers.

And MBC, Kobe's the one being inconsistent, 2-12 last night for 5 points, while Odom and Artest were 13-19 for 33 points.

With the Lakers having a 4.5 game lead over the 2nd place Nuggets and a 6.5 game over the Mavs in 3rd place, Kobe should sit out. He clearly is at 50% and only getting worse after his 5 point performance last night. The Lakers have the breathing room for Kobe to sit out the next 2 weeks and still be around the lead. I think that is in the best interest of the team right now for Kobe to get back up around 85-90% compared to the level he is at now.

I don't think the Grizzlies keep Gay. As much as they probably want to, he's just going to be asking too much money and they really can't afford it. Mike Conley is just not an NBA starting PG. He gets assists because his guys around him hit jumpers, but other than that, he's never had solid shooting percentages, is a horrible liability on defense and isn't the PG they need. This is probably the Grizzlies window to be able to win something in the post-season, and by win something I mean 2 games in the 1st round before they get bounced. If they don't re-sign Gay, they have about $10 million in free agency to work with.

I think the Grizz should sign and trade Gay. I'm not sure how complicated sign and trades are, but if they could do something like Gay for Hinrich + picks, prospects it would benefit them both. If the Bulls can't get a big name FA, the least they could do is spend their money on a swingman they desperately need alongside Rose. Although Deng has been playing very well lately.

But are the Grizzlies for real? WTF?

The Grizzlies seem like they are for real, as the team is buying into Hollins as coach, and the younger players have matured quick. It's never been a question of talent for the Grizzlies, just the inability of the team to buy into the concepts the coach is spewing. I like their core, especially with Randolph and Gasol on the blocks. You have two very solid big men, add in O.J Mayo who is willing to help this team in ways outside of scoring, Rudy Gay holding down the three spot, and the once highly touted and now developing (somewhat slowly) into a starting point guard in Mike Conley rounding out the starting five. The biggest question that will plague the future of this group is whether or not the Grizzlies will be able to hold onto Gay, or if they even want to? This team has come out of nowhere to surprise the league, i'm sure Chris Wallace is shocked the most, in a good way. The guy has made absolutely awful moves that have somehow worked for the Grizzlies in a counterintuitive way (think two negatives make a positive, for those so inclined to think mathematically). I think the future of this group that has come in an inadvertent way will be hindered naturally by Wallace.

Kobe becoming the Lakers all time leading scorer tonight against with Grizzlies with 44 points. Unforunately, this ended as a loss for the Lakers who failed to get any efficent production outside of Kobe. Kobe kept the Lakers in the game and opted to pass to Artest for the game winner only to see Artests three point attempt end up clanking off of the rim. Can't say he's never passed for the potential game winning shot. I'm sure that's not how Kobe invisioned the night of the milestone ending but it's alright as Kobe has bigger fish to fry and concern himself during the latter parts of the season (postseason, that is).

It's not even about needing help, it's about being a professional and getting your head out of your ass and giving 110% like a professional each and every night which Odom does not do. There is no reason why Odom shouldn't be getting a double-double with 5 or 6 assists every night. The only reason he doesn't is because he chooses not to put forth the necessary effort to contribute that much on a consistent basis.

I think Kobe will need some help but when he called out Odom and Artest he seemed like he needed more help than people think he does, and I think he actually does need some help. It just maybe could be getting them in gear so they can be ready for the playoffs or down the road but I highly doubt it was, it was because he needs help imo.

Interested to hear MBC's thoughts of Kobe's injuries, as much has been said in the news lately about Kobe playing with all these injuries. I don't want to post them all, as you get the point but just saying for validity reasons.

Kobe has been disappointing lately. Not only in how he's been playing but especially disappointing in the reason of why he's been playing subpar. As much as I love Kobe, it seems like his ego gets in the way. Instead of understanding that you are pretty banged up and sitting it out when almost every single player in the NBA would sit down when they get the same injuries as he does, he still plays. I know to be the best you gotta bring it everynight regardless of injury, which it's pretty clear that Kobe tries to do this and succeeds at it most of the time. But, in doing so, Kobe loses hindsight of the biggest picture. Which for him is to win the championship, playing through these injuries has the strong possiblity of slowing him down when the time matters most. It also doesn't help Kobe's case that he's not a young guy anymore (31) and has more miles than the average 31 year old nba player due to all the extra games outside of regular season. I'm pretty sure Quinnster or Czech was trying to say this, except in the manner that it cost the Lakers the championship. Which I disagree but the main point being that trying to play through everything can be awfully costly. Playing through the recent back injury, hand injury and another one I forgot is stupid because it's clearly catching up to him.

I'm sure to Kobe it comes down to not trying to be a whimp and the whole intimidation factor of playing through everything unphased. Not trying to have anyone see him sweat.

It looks like the Lakers are going to lose to the Clippers tonight. The Clips home crowd totally took the Lakers out of their groove...

Kobe shot terrible tonight and same thing with Odom. When is Odom going to figure out that he can't shoot? Odom was also getting beasted by Craig Smith in the post, he looked completely helpless. Funniest thing from the game tonight was Shannon Brown taking the entire shot clock to try to score only to get shut down multiple times by Baron Davis, who capped off his defensive effort with a block on Brown. Talk about feeling stupid.
