LG

Bluechip
Morrow is a mediocre middle reliever. In his first three seasons, Carlos Villanueva outperformed Morrow's first three seasons, despite Villanueva being a year younger at those times.

I'll concede that Morrow has a lot of untapped raw potential, but he's only had one above-average season in his first three (2008), and he was far from closer-quality in that season. I've never been a big Gamel supporter, but if a middle reliever who hits arbitration before Gamel is all the Brewers can net in a trade, then I'd rather hold on to Gamel and see what he can do.

Morrow is better than mediocre, I would put him as good and he has the potential to be great, but I've read that the Blue Jays are going to use him as a starter. I don't really see how Villanueva out performed Morrow. I'm not going to break down what they did as a starter and reliever but Villanueva only leads in three things; walks, whip and innings. Morrows whip is so "crappy" because he doesn't have the control that Villanueva does, which is common with young hard throwers.

Morrow has a lot of potential, but in two of his three seasons he has basically been an average pitcher. "Mediocre" might not have been the correct word for me to use; "average" is probably more appropriate. And he has said that he prefers pitching from the bullpen, and that is why Seattle kept him there last season. A pitcher who has been an average reliever for two of the past three years just doesn't strike me as somebody with much value, even if he does have some potential.

I'd go as far as to say that the past three years he's been above average and has the potential to be very good. 3.96 era, .223 opps batting average, 1.47 whip and more strikeouts than innings pitched. The fact that he's 25, throws mid to high 90s, and has the ability to be a closer or (right now) 3rd or 4th starter boosts his value a lot. I guess I just don't see how you don't think he has value.

He started the season in the bullpen as Seattles closer until he had one horrible month. Then they moved him back to a starter where he pitched a ton better from. The Jays have a lack of starters so it only makes sense that he'll be starting in Toronto, whether or not it's what he wants to do.
Re:Brewers trade JJ (Bluechip)

LG

Bluechip
Morrow is a mediocre middle reliever. It was astounding to see for such a "pure" hitter.

He's opposite Cerrano.

He has a small uppercut right as it goes through the zone.

I'm actually not optimistic for Gamel at all. It wouldn't surprise me if he never hits more than 10 HR's or plays a full season in Milwaukee.

I think Gamel just needs to say "___ you, Jobu, I do it myself." Haha...

I'm in the same boat as you though. Whereas the hyped guys like Fielder, Braun, Gallardo, and even Hart and Weeks to an extent came up and gave you the impression right away that they were gonna be cornerstones in this franchise, I did not get that with Gamel. His inability to hit popcorn fastballs consistently and his incredibly falling stock isn't helping either.

Hopefully, he can find his inner Downtown Anderson before becoming the Major League 3 Pedro Cerrano, "disappearing from baseball for awhile to find whatever the hell it was he lost."
Re:Brewers trade JJ (Wizzler)

I would love to have Gamel in the outfield.

Heard a funny joke the other day. What do you get when you have to crappy corner infielders? Two crappy corner outfielders. Braun isn't big on errors but what he is big on is bad angles and bad reads. The we get to put Gamel in right to replace below average and former crappy corner infielder Corey Hart. We still need to fill the void in center though. Our former crappy middle infielder experiment didn't work there and now he is in Seattle. When was the last time the brewers drafted a decent outfielder? Geoff Jenkins?
Re:Brewers trade JJ (diener34)

DB

Hopefully, Gamel also takes some reps in learning how to hit 86 mph fastballs right down the middle of the plate...Dude swung through way too many gimme pitches last year. Gamel is going to start taking some reps in the outfield. Just watch. And we need him on the 25 man roster. You'll have him and Counsell as our infield backups. Gamel can play the corner infield spots and Counsell everywhere but 1st. I am sure he can play first, but the height thing just don't work. But really, you may want Gamel getting shots every day, but honestly, the only other infielder on the 40-man is Iribarren. Heether and Cruz? Well I guess Cruz could make the roster as a backup. But I would not be surprised to see Gamel take some reps in the outfield this spring. People have to understand the implications of the 40-man roster. If one of these guys that get invites to ST in the outfield, somehow make the team, then that means someone has to get kicked off the 4-man.
Re:Brewers trade JJ (jake53098)

Czar

Couple of things about this trade. Brewers sent Hardy down for 2 reasons: To play Escobar and to keep JJ ineligible for arbitration. (Which was 2 days away). Now he's got 2 more years. Who wouldn't be pissed. This is as close to just cutting a guy as you can get. It does free up some money. I am a Brewer fan and I get both the Twins and Brewers on Fox Sports. Gomez drove Gardenhire nuts with his lack of baseball sense, which Hardy won't do. As for Gomez being the centerpiece of the Santana trade, the Twins had no leverage to get anything proven. 14 sb and 11 caught with his speed is horrible. He has made horrifically bad bonehead plays the last 2 years and showed no signs of getting smarter. I do think he will hit better, but never with a good OPS. If all goes well, Gomez will, at best, be the late inning replacement in the outfield. Also we really need a 3B. Gamel is more butcherous than Braun was. McGahee?

Where you been?
