-It may be early, but the argument over which state high school has the best backfield is all but over with thanks to Brookfield Central High School and its two Division I running back prospects.
On Wednesday, WisFootball.net reported Lancers' running back Jeff Lewis received his third scholarship offer to date courtesy of Indiana, who joined previous scholarship offers from Western Michigan and Illinois State.
Now it appears teammate
Xavier Whitaker (6-3, 200) received a third scholarship offer of his own on Wednesday.
“Indiana offered me today,” Whitaker told WisFootball.net on Wednesday evening. “They started talking to me a few weeks back and really liked me after they saw my film.”
The Hoosiers' offer joined ones previously extended by Eastern Illinois and Illinois State. In addition, Whitaker has also garnered looks from Wisconsin, Eastern Michigan, Alabama, Memphis, Louisville and North Dakota State.
His biggest offer to date, Whitaker said the Hoosiers' offer is definitely an intriguing one.
“I am very interested in Indiana,” he explained.
Whitaker totaled 116 carries for 872 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior in route to earning CNI Newspapers high honorable-mention all-suburban,
Waukesha Freeman first-team all-Waukesha County, first-team all-conference and Greater Metro Conference Co-Offensive Back of the Year honors.
-More and more scholarship offer news keeps coming in as now Muskego offensive lineman/defensive end
Kyle Costigan (6-5, 250) is reporting his first scholarship offer to date.
“Illinois State offered me today,” Costigan said Wednesday night.
“On Monday, the defensive line coach, Coach (Spence) Nowinsky, came by and talked to me and we gave him my highlight tape and then today the head coach, Coach (Brock) Spack, came by and we talked for a while and they offered,” Costigan explained.
“I really liked these two coaches, they really left a good impression on me,” he added.
In addition to the scholarship offer from Illinois State, Costigan has also received recruiting interest from Wisconsin, Iowa State, UCLA, Northern Iowa, North Dakota and Drake.
A major standout on the defensive side of the ball as a junior, Costigan totaled 45 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles, four sacks, three tackles for loss, two knockdowns, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 2008. He was named CNI Newspapers first-team all-suburban,
Waukesha Freeman honorable-mention all-Waukesha County and first-team all-Southeast Conference North Division for his efforts.
Costigan was also named CNI Newspapers honorable-mention all-suburban and honorable-mention all-Southeast Conference North Division on the offensive line as a junior.
