South Dakota strikes again, offers Somerset lineman

A standout as both an offensive lineman and defensive end, Somerset's
Bryan Witzmann (6-8, 255) was one of the state's top two-way players this season.
Named the Middle Border Conference Player of the Year, Witzmann garnered WFCA first-team all-state, WFCA all-region,
Eau Claire Leader-Telegram first-team all-area and first-team all-conference honors as an offensive lineman. He also received WFCA honorable-mention all-state, WFCA all-region and first-team all-conference laurels from his defensive end position as a senior.
Not surprisingly, those exceptional honors combined with massive size have helped garner plenty of college interest, including one scholarship offer, for Witzmann.
So far mail has come from North Dakota State, South Dakota, Minnesota-Moorhead and Winona State. In addition, all of those schools plus South Dakota State, St. Cloud State, Minnesota State-Mankato and the WIAC schools have also requested film.
“South Dakota offered me a scholarship,” Witzmann said.
Though USD may be the first to do so, they may not be the last as NDSU and SDSU are also strongly in contention. Witzmann has official visits scheduled with South Dakota on December 13, North Dakota State on January 10, and South Dakota State on January 17.
Of the three, it appears NDSU holds the early edge as Witzmann listed the Bison as his current favorite.
Witzmann is the state's tenth known prospect to receive a scholarship offer from South Dakota joining Appleton North defensive end Clay Gosse, Kenosha Bradford linebacker Cordero Finley, Ladysmith defensive lineman Zach Anderson, Milwaukee Riverside running back Ryan Givens, West Allis Hale linebacker Brian Otto, Homestead defensive end Ben Gardner, Medford defensive lineman Ethan Hemer, Greendale wide receiver Ben Ericksen and Arrowhead offensive lineman Nick Doehling.
Witzmann reported a 5.0-second 40-yard dash, 275-pound bench press and 350-pound squat.
