J.P. Tokoto?
Tuesday morning the talented 6-foot-6 wing forward from Menomonee Falls received a scholarship offer from perennial national title contender Duke University.
The offer from Duke is in addition to earlier scholarship offers from Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Marquette, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
“The offer from Duke is obviously pretty high praise for J.P.,” said Ritchie Davis, Tokoto’s coach with the Wisconsin Playground Warriors grassroots program. “Coach (Mike) K (Krzyzewski) really likes J.P. The Duke staff loved the Tokoto family and J.P.’s parents. They like the fact J.P. is a quick and willing learner.”
Tokoto, the No. 1-ranked sophomore in Wisconsin in the Wishoops.net Player Rankings, took an unofficial visit to Duke last weekend and took part in the Blue Devils’ Elite Camp.
“The Duke coaches thought J.P. played very well at the camp,” Davis said. ““They like the fact J.P. looks you in the eye when you talk to him and that he really wants to get better.”
Tokoto also took an unofficial visit to North Carolina during his trip to the state last weekend. Though the Tar Heels did not offer a scholarship, they remain very interested in one of the nation’s most sought-after class of 2012 prospects.
“The North Carolina coaches made it clear they will not offer any player from the class of 2012 until June 15 of next summer, per the guidelines set up by the college coaches,” Davis said. “North Carolina likes J.P. a lot as well. The coaches from North Carolina plan to come up to Menomonee Falls for an open gym in the fall, and they plan to watch one of his games next season as well.
“J.P. also has a personal invitation to attend the Duke at North Carolina game next season.”
Tokoto is the first player in the class of 2012 to receive a scholarship offer from Duke and the first player from the state to earn an offer during Krzyzewski’s highly successful tenure at the school.
An explosive athlete with developing perimeter skills, Tokoto is an outstanding student who has improved in all aspects of the game over the last 12 months and is expected to play a key role for a Menomonee Falls squad expected to contend for the Greater Metro Conference title during the 2009-10 season.

That should seal the deal. I know a source very close to JP that said a month or so ago he was just waiting for Duke to offer. It's where his mom really wants him to go. Congrats to JP.
