Recruiting interest continues to increase for Rank, Gasser, Meinecke

Several members of the highly successful Wisconsin Swing 16U travel-team program have recently received recruiting interest from schools at the NCAA Division I and II levels. 
 
Following is a brief breakdown of the recent interest for each player, according to Swing coach Tyler Selk: 
 
Chip Rank, 6-6, F, Jr., Cedarburg – Creighton, Northeastern, Northwestern, Portland and  Wisconsin have been in recent contact. William & Mary also recently offered a scholarship. Both UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee had previously offered scholarships along with several other schools.   









 
Josh Gasser, 6-4, PG, Jr., Port Washington – Creighton, Northeastern, Northwestern and Portland have expressed recent interest while William & Mary offered a scholarship. Like Rank, Gasser is a prime recruiting target for both Green Bay and Milwaukee, who previously offered scholarships. 










Brett Meinecke, 6-0, WG, Jr., Sussex Hamilton – Creighton, Northeastern, New Jersey Institute of Technology and South Dakota State have shown recent interest. 










 
Logan Johnson, 6-3, WG, Jr., Barneveld – New Jersey Institute of Technology, Southwest Minnesota State and Winona State have shown recent interest.
 
Zach Ripley, 6-9, F, Sr., Waunakee – Milwaukee, Northeastern and New Jersey Institute of Technology have expressed recent interest.
 
Whitefish Bay’s Sherburne decides to attend Princeton 
 
Whitefish Bay senior Jimmy Sherburne has decided to attend Princeton University of the Ivy League.
 
Sherburne follows in the footsteps of former Whitefish Bay guard Steve Gruber, who also competes in the Ivy League with Brown.
 
The 6-2 Sherburne is a physically strong wing guard who can get on a roll offensively, especially from long range. Also a standout quarterback in football, Sherburne is currently ranked No. 20 among state prospects in the class of 2009 by Wishoops.net.
 
Sherburne and senior classmates Charlie Markson and Kevin James are returning starters for Whitefish Bay, which hopes to be among the top teams in the deep and highly competitive North Shore Conference.  
 
North Fond du Lac hires Blaine Denny as new basketball coach
 
Blaine Denny has been named to replace Steve Murphy as the varsity basketball coach at North Fond du Lac.
 
Denny is a Milwaukee Tech graduate who played professional basketball in Puerto Rico before coming back to be an assistant basketball coach at Milwaukee Rufus King.
 
Quick Hitters … Former Waukesha North coach Bill “Scooter” Hartmann has joined the coaching staff at Milwaukee School of Engineering … Saran Wheeler will serve as the junior varsity coach at Cudahy after spending last season as a coach at Waukesha North … Coaches from both Iowa State and Wisconsin traveled to Merrill this week to watch 6-5 sophomore Paul Jesperson compete in an open-gym workout.
