Summer Fastpitch Tourney in Waunakee

4th Annual Waunakee Fastpitch Fury Tournament
Dates:                         June 26 & 27, 2010 (Rain or Shine)

Age Divisions:            U12 and U14
8 team limit per division

Entry:                         $325 Entry Fee ($300 if register by May 1st

Format:                      5 Game Guarantee (weather permitting)
                                    Pool play on Saturday with bracket play on Sunday 

Awards:                     Team awards to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and consolation place finishers
                                    Individual awards to 1st and 2nd place finishers 

Location:                    U12 Centennial Park, Waunakee

Dodgeland Summer Fastpitch League update

Who:    Summer Fastpitch Teams
Where:  Juneau, Wisconsin
                Juneau City Park and Dodgeland High School softball diamonds.
When:  Thursday nights from June 17 through July 29
              (August 5 rain make-up)
Cost:       $250 which covers the expenses of umpires, game balls, and awards
Other Information:
      Plate umpires will be WIAA registered officials and games will follow all WIAA rules with the following exceptions:
 
      We would like to have players that are to be members of your high school program for the 2010-2011 school year.  A 2010  graduate may play only if necessary to field a team to avoid a forfeited game.  This player must be identified to both the league officials as well as the opposing coach prior to the beginning of that game.  If you need to use athletes in your surrounding area to help field a team this would also be permitted.
      Team rosters may include up to 20 players to accommodate the player’s summer work schedules and potential vacations. 
      Games will be 80 minutes in length with a 15 run rule after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings and 8 runs after 5 innings. 
      Coach’s discretion on batting roster by utilizing DP flex, full roster batting or free substitution.
      The home team must keep the official score book and submit it to the league officials at the conclusion of each game.  Game balls, score sheets, clip boards, and pencils will be provided by the league.

UW-L Freshman Lauren Schaller named the WIAC player of the Week

Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse freshman outfielder Lauren Schaller of Onalaska (Holmen) and junior pitcher Heather Schultz of Annandale, Minn. (H.S.) have been selected the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Position and Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Schaller hit .636 in UW-L's first eight games as the Eagles went 7-1. She was 14-for-22 with nine RBI and eight runs scored. Schaller also hit four home runs with two doubles and a 1.273 slugging percentage.

She leads UW-L in average, hits, home runs and total bases (28). Schaller had at least one hit in seven of eight contests, including five multi-hit games.

Schultz went 4-0 in four appearances to start the season with a 1.02 earned run average. She earned victories over Simpson College (Iowa), Concordia University (Wis.), Augsburg College (Minn.) and Concordia-Moorhead University (Minn.).

Pitching 20.2 innings, Schultz allowed three runs and four walks while striking out 24. She had a complete-game win over Augsburg March 5, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

UW-L returns to action Sunday, March 14 against Southwestern University (Texas) in Tucson, Arizona starting at noon.

Softball Coaches Association inducts 2nd class of coaches into Hall of Fame

The Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association is pleased to announce the second induction class to the WFSCA Hall of Fame.  The Hall of Fame Class for 2010 includes:  Greg Lampe, Oak Creek, Bob LeCaptain, Denmark/Green Bay West, John Malin, Kimberly, Russell Shaub, Middleton, Bob Tomlinson, Poynette, Rod Wilterdink, Cedarburg.  

These inductees are being recognized for their accomplishments both on and off the playing fields during their coaching careers.  The induction ceremony took place during the WFSCA Annual Coaching Clinic in Stevens Point, WI on February 21st. 

GREG LAMPE
Greg started the softball program in Oak Creek.  Over his seventeen years of varsity coaching he compiled an overall record of 284-52.  His teams won nine conference championships and qualified for the state tournament five times during his tenure.  The Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel named him the Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2002.  Greg served as a District Representative for the WFSCA from 1988 to 2004 and continues to serve as the Awards Chairperson. 

BOB LECAPTAIN
For the past 29 years Bob has coached at Denmark and Green Bay West.  His overall record is 453-142.  At Denmark Bob led his team to 15 conference championships, seven state appearances, one state runner-up in 1985 and state titles in 1982, 1983, 1991, and 1997.  At Green Bay West he was able to lead his team to four more conference championships.

JOHN MALIN
John was the varsity softball coach at Kimberly High School.  During his thirteen years as the head coach Kimberly Softball won 10 conference championships and qualified for the state tournament 9 times.  His team was able to win state championships in 1980, 1981, 1988, and 1989.  His overall coaching record was 230-37.  He was also honored as the State Softball Coach of the Year and is a member of the Kimberly Hall of Fame.

RUSSELL SHAUB
Russell was the varsity softball coach at Middleton High School for twenty-six seasons.  His teams won 18 conference championships during this time.  In the Badger Conference they won 13 championships over 16 years and then won 5 championships in 10 years in the Big 8 Conference.  His team won the state tournament in 1989 and also qualified for the state tournament in 1980, 1981, and 1993.  Russell’s overall coaching record was 403-119.

BOB TOMLINSON
Bob has been the varsity softball coach at Poynette since 1980.  During this time he an overall record of 426-149.  His teams have won 19 conference championships, won 2 state titles in 1998 and 2005, were runner-up in 1999 and 2003, and also qualified for the state tournament in 2006.  Bob served as the original WFSCA Publicity Chair and published the WFSCA News Bulletin in newsprint form.  In 2002 he was nominated by one of his players that season for Coca-Cola’s Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award. One educator per state is chosen for that honor.

ROD WILTERDINK
Rod was the varsity softball coach at Cedarburg for 26 years.  His overall record during this time was 363-156.  His teams won 9 conference championships and qualified for the state tournament 9 times during this time.  In 2002 his team was fortunate to play in the first state tournament game on Goodman Field in Madison.  In 2004, he was named the area Coach of the Year by the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel.  Rod was also a member of the initial WFSCA Executive Board.  He was a district representative and served as the WFSCA Treasurer for three years.  Before coaching softball he coached baseball for ten years at Cedarburg.  After leaving Cedarburg in 2005 he coached at Concordia University for two years and then for one more season at MSOE in 2008.
